飼育下繁殖のレッサーパンダの野生復帰の話 ぱーと2

飼育下で生まれたレッサーパンダの放獣が2022年1月15日に行われました。
この放獣は、2003年11月と2004年10月に、それぞれ2頭のメスパンダ放獣されたのに引き続いて2回目の放獣となります。以前 noteで、2003年と2004年の放獣を紹介しています。

今回の放獣の目的は以下の計画書に記されています。

7. THE RE-STOCKING PLAN 2019-2023
The current proposal aims to improve the habitat and strengthen the protection status so as to assist the recovery of the red pandas in the forest of Singalila National Park, Neora Valley National Park and forest area of Darjeeling division. During the project period eight (8) nos of red panda will be released in a scientific way to increase the number of red pandas in the wild as well as to assist the recovery of the species by introducing genetically viable individuals in the targeted forest areas. （要約：シンガリラ国立公園、ネオラ・バレー国立公園、ダージリン地方の森林地帯において、生息環境改善と保全強化を行い、レッサーパンダの回復を支援することを目的としています。プロジェクト期間中に8頭のレッサーパンダを科学的な方法で放し、野生のレッサーパンダの数を増やすと同時に、対象となる森林地域に遺伝的に生存可能な個体を導入して種の回復を支援する予定です。）

この計画書によれば、放獣に先駆けて、1.75haの放獣訓練区域でのレッサーパンダの自給自足訓練や、放獣場所の選定、生息地の改善と保全が記されています。放獣後では、4年間の追跡調査が記されています。

目的が達成されることを願うとともに、放獣されたパンダたちの子孫が、放獣された地（西ベンガル）に根付くことを願ってやみません。
