Thoughts of Servant Leadership

This is the 6th book introduction.

Author

Robert K. Greenleaf

Summary

The book has influenced many since it was first published in the United States in 1977. The concept of servant leadership constitutes the basic philosophy of leadership theory.

Servant
Service is the essence of leadership, according to author Greenleaf. He believes it is his responsibility to follow his conscience and lead the way to a better world, and he always asks himself if he is doing what is prioritized for the people around him and the organization.

According to Peter Senge, author of The Learning Organization, this book is "the only book that serious leadership students should read.” Stephen Covey, the author of The 7 Habits, wrote the foreword.

Impressions

I was 22 years old when I got this book.

I was in college, writing my thesis on the communication skills required of global leaders when I first heard the term "servant leadership.”

I had always had the image that leadership was something that assertive types of people demonstrated, and I wondered if it would be difficult for me. I had thought that this was a good idea.

If anything, I cannot say what I want to say. I preferred to communicate with people with hospitality and felt it was something I could do without consciously thinking about it. So when I learned about this concept, I felt saved.

As an English literature major, I also learned what leadership is from Jane Austen's novel "Arrogance and Prejudice.”

Arrogance and Prejudice can sometimes lead to good leadership, can't they?

Because strong will and thoughts move people. It's not good to have vectors pointing in selfish directions, but most of the time it's not, and it's cool to have your own will.

I am not the type of person who has a strong will and desire to do things, but I felt that I would be suited for a job where I can show servant leadership and support so-called strong leadership types.

Easier said than done, but I hope I can continue to be useful to others in a style that I am comfortable with.
