Thoughts of LISTEN

This is the 9th book introduction.

Author

Kate Murphy

Summary

We face communication barriers daily.

We couldn't say what we wanted to say.
I don't know what to say
I feel like I have spoken, but the message is not being understood.

I think, "Next time, I'll find a better way to say it," or "I'll find the right timing," or "I'll get that person to tell me what I want to say.

However, communication requires both the teller and the receiver.

This book focuses on listening.

It describes, along with the views of various experts, how getting people to listen carefully and develop the attitude and skills to listen can be helpful in child development, marital relationships, workplace performance, and even trade negotiations.

Impressions

I very much agree that listening is much more important than talking. Of course, I think both are important.

I also found it interesting that hearing is a prelude to listening.

People get lonely when they are not listened to. Amazingly, loneliness has a worse effect on your health than smoking 14 cigarettes a day.

Loneliness is not about not having friends or family, but about not having someone to let your feelings and thoughts be heard.

This makes sense to me because I have seen many services created by Corona to solve loneliness.

I'm looking forward to a book club this week where we can share our thoughts on this book.
