双頭の大怪獣ハンシャロンは、第九代水戸藩主徳川斉昭によって建てられた那珂湊反射炉の化身である。歴代水戸藩主の中でも屈指の過激派で知られた斉昭公は、外国船に対抗するための大砲を製造すべく、那珂湊に反射炉を建造させたのだった。
その後幕末にかけて、水戸藩は桜田門外の変、坂下門外の変など多くの血を流さなければならなかった。やがて藩内で｢天狗党の乱｣と呼ばれる内部抗争が起こり、那珂湊反射炉もその戦いの中で破壊され、焼かれた。
しかしハンシャロンはこれでいいと思っていた。戦いの道具を作り続ける事に、本当は疲れていたのだ。
時は流れ昭和12年(1937年)、那珂湊反射炉は当時と同じ姿で再建された。生まれ変わったハンシャロンは時代の生き字引として当時の歴史を今に伝えている。

The two-headed monster Hansharon is an incarnation of the Nakaminato Reverberatory Furnace built by the 9th Mito feudal lord Tokugawa Nariaki. Nariaki, known as one of the most radical lords of the Mito domain, had Nakaminato build a reverberatory furnace in order to manufacture cannons to counter foreign ships.
After that, toward the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, the Mito clan had to shed a lot of blood, such as the strangeness outside Sakuradamon and the strangeness outside Sakashitamon. Eventually, an internal conflict called the "Tengu Party Rebellion" occurred within the domain, and the Nakaminato Reverberatory Furnace was destroyed and burned during the battle.
But Hansharon thought this was fine. He was really tired of making fighting tools.
Time passed, and in 1937, the Nakaminato Reverberatory Furnace was rebuilt in the same shape as it was at that time. The reborn Hansharon conveys the history of the time as a living dictionary of the times.
