Black gymnast was ignored at medal ceremony in Ireland

アイルランドで起きた黒人少女への人種差別について
    問題が発生したのは、アイルランド体操協会が行った2022年3月の体操競技大会。ここで参加した横一列に並んだ少女たちに、参加メダルを全員に授与する場面で、黒人の少女だけが授与から外された。なおこの行為を行った女性を体操協会は協会のofficialだと説明している。
　問題が拡大したのは、場面を捉えた映像がSNSで拡散してから。体操協会は2023年9月22日に声明を発表したが、声明は、問題になった場面で差別行為があったとの認定を避け、謝罪も行わないという素気ないものである。ところが9月23日に、黒人の有名選手Simon Bilesが映像を見て心が痛むと述べるとさらにSNSが沸き立つ。9月24日、少女の家族が、謝罪を公にすることを求めていることが報道される。そしてようやく2023年9月25日に体操協会は謝罪文を出した。
　経緯を観察してみると、アイルランド体操協会はまず、問題の女性は意図的をメダルを渡さなかったのではない（これは人種差別行為はなかったという主張になる）、と主張し、家族の抗議を受けて、競技場にまだ少女がいる段階で渡した（これはメダルを渡さなかった問題は解消されたという主張になる）、と経緯を説明している。つまり人種差別行為はなかった（問題は競技場内で既に解消された）と主張し、2023年9月22日声明に至るまでその主張を維持した。ところがSimon Bilesの発言が伝わり、報道機関がそのことを伝え始めると、姿勢を一転して9月25日、謝罪文を公表し、人種差別に反対するとしたが、正直にいって口先の主張に見える。
　アイルランド体操協会はアイルランド政府の監督下にある団体である。この事件の経緯は、とくに体操協会の対応の不手際は、私たちの理解を越えている。日本社会にも同様のことが起こりうるが、まず事件発覚後、徹底して問題を起こした女性を隠すとともに、開催者としての体操協会としての責任を回避したようにみえる。アイルランド体操協会と同協会を監督するアイルランド政府とは、この問題を深刻に捉え、人種差別廃絶に向けてこれまでとは異なったレベルのアクションを起こすべきではないだろうか。
　日本にはアイルランド好きの方もおられる。ただアイルランド社会では、ときどき人種差別が時々、表に現れている。1年前の2022年9月23日国際連合は公式の報告書の中で、アイルランドの託児所における組織的人種差別に適切な対処adequate redressが必要だと指摘している。弱い子供たちに、人種差別をするというひどいことがアイルランドでは起きているのである。

　また留学を予定される方は、過度に心配する必要はないが、今年2023年の春、発表されたアイルランドで学ぶ海外留学生の3分の2が、人種差別行為racismを経験したという以下の報道も、人種差別が社会に根深いことを知る上で参考になる。Helen Packer, Racism affects two-thirds of Ireland internatinal students, study finds, The PIE News, 2023/04/04  最後にアイルランド体操協会主催競技会で起きた事件で、許されないのは、弱い少女に対して大人の女性が差別行為を行ったこと、そして体操協会が1年以上にわたり、この差別行為を差別行為と認定せず、また主催者としての自らの責任を認めず保身を続けたことである。その意味で一片の謝罪文（この謝罪文にも曖昧な点がある）では問題は終わらないのではないだろうか。

It is ridiculous that 18 months after medal snub, Gymnastics Ireland still do not apologize at all. In this statement Gymnastics Ireland insisted the matter already has been settled. And they denied to express any apology and just expressed their concern to the family.
