リトアニア・カウナス空港撮影情報

基礎情報 / Basic info

地理的には東ヨーロッパに位置し、バルト三国の最南端に位置するリトアニア。ラトビア、ベラルーシ、ポーランド、ロシア（飛び地のカリーニングラード）と国境を接し、EUかつNATOの加盟国です。シェンゲン協定にも加盟しており、使用通貨はユーロです。EUの中では物価は高くなく、日本と同じか安いぐらいです。

Lithuania is geographically located in East Europe, and it is the southernmost country among the Baltic States, bordering with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia (exclave - Kaliningrad). It is a member of the European Union, NATO and Schengen Agreement, and the currency is Euro. Prices are not high compared to other EU countries.

カウナス空港は民間空港なので、法律の上では撮影が許可されています。しかし、空港職員によってはソ連時代の感覚が残っているためか、撮影を中止するように迫ってくる人もいます。いきなりリトアニア語やロシア語で怒鳴りつけてくる人もいますが、飛行機撮影は合法ですし逮捕・連行されることはないので心配する必要はありません。ただ、怒鳴られるとうるさいので一旦帰るふりをしましょう。しばらくしたら、また戻ればいいだけです。一度空港で警察官に話しかけて聞いてみたのですが、軍用機を撮らない限り問題ないとのことでした。

It is legal to photograph airplanes at this airport since it is a civil airport. However, there are some nasty airport workers (especially security, sometimes ground handling staff) who still have a Soviet mentality. They often yell and force you to stop photographing through a fence. They are really aggressive, but you don't have to be worried because you won't be arrested or detained. However, it is still noisy and annoying to hear them yelling at you in Lithuanian or Russian (they don't know English), so it is a good idea to leave the spotting location for a few minutes and then come back again after the rude guy has gone away. I actually have talked with a policeman at the airport, and he said it is fine to photograph civil aircraft, but not military aircraft. As long as you photograph civil ones, you should be fine. 

撮影スポットは、残念ながら多くありません。空港で撮る場合、展望デッキは存在しないので、フェンス越しに撮影する必要があります。脚立の使用は厳禁です。また、空港職員に声をかけられることが多いので、特に警備員が乗っている赤い車が見えたらすぐにカメラを鞄に入れ、フェンスから離れるそぶりを見せることをお勧めします。撮影する瞬間だけカメラを出し、それ以外は鞄にしまう、というのを守っていれば、ほぼ大丈夫です。

There are not many spotting locations at this airport. You need to photograph through a fence since there is no official spotting deck. Never use stairs and keep a low profile. Keep your camera in your bag, and take it out only when your targeted airplane is at a good position. If you see a dark red car on the apron, put your camera in your bag immediately and behave as if you are leaving away from the fence. Don't stare at the car. Then it should be alright. 

空港外周は森になっていますが、アクセスが悪いのとフェンスで囲まれているとの理由から調査できていません。特に順光となる空港南側スポットについては完全に手付かずの状態なので、今度渡航した時に開拓できればと思います。

It seems there could be some interesting locations around the airport especially on the southern side, but I still have not been able to discover these spots due to poor accessibility. 

トラフィックは多くなく、民間旅客定期便のほとんどがRyanairとWizzAirという、きわめて典型的で退屈な東欧の空港です。2023年夏の時点で大手フルサービスキャリアの就航はありません。ただし、この空港の面白いところは整備拠点があり、重整備やリースバックとなった飛行機が不定期に送り込まれてくるところです。知っている範囲ではRyanair, Lux Air（B737）, エーゲ航空（A320ceoファミリー）が重整備で飛来します。また、近くにNATOの拠点があるので、NATO加盟国の防衛大臣が訪れる際に政府専用機が発着します。これに加えて不定期貨物便も多く飛来します。

Kaunas Airport does not have much traffic, and almost all the scheduled passenger commercial flights are Ryanair and WizzAir, just as other airports in East Europe. There is no full service carrier at this airport as of summer 2023. However, the interesting thing is that there is actually a maintenance center at this airport, and some airplanes randomly fly to the airport for heavy maintenance and leasing back. As far as I know, Ryanair, Lux Air (B737) and Aegean Airlines (A320ceo Family) use Kaunas for heavy maintenance. Also, governmental planes for NATO member states often fly to this airport since there is a NATO office nearby.

撮影スポット / Spotting locations

１．ターミナル横フェンス / A fence next to the terminal building

エプロンを見渡せる撮影スポットです。空港ターミナルの東側、西側の両方から撮影できますが、西側からだと管制塔前にある大型機用スポットに駐機した飛行機の前半分が撮影できます。東側からだと、大型機用スポットに駐機した飛行機の全景を斜め前から撮影できます。管制塔前の大型機用スポット以外はすべてA321サイズまでしか対応していないので、IL-76やAn-124、A330などが来た場合はすべて管制塔前のスポットに入ります。
エプロンまではA320サイズで30-40mm程度、滑走路上のA320は200mm程度、A340-300で120mm程度です。夏の早朝と夕方（午後6時以降）に順光気味になりますが、そのほかは常に逆光です。ただ、一年を通して曇りの日が多いので、光線は気にしなくても大丈夫だと思います。

You can see traffic on the apron. There is a spotting location on the eastern and western side of the terminal building, and you have to shoot through a fence. Two spots just in front of the control tower can handle larger planes such as IL-76, An-124 and A330. Other spots are capable of handling airplanes up to A321. A320 on the apron can be photographed at 30-50mm, on the runway at 200mm. A340-300 on the runway can be shot at around 120mm. Backlight almost entire year, but it becomes kind of good light condition in the early morning and in the evening after 6pm in summer. However, given the fact that the weather is usually cloudy whole year, you don't need to be worried about the light condition too much.

２．管制塔脇スポット / Control Tower

こちらは管制塔のすぐ横にあるスポット。目の前に大型機対応スポットがあるので、そこの飛行機を撮影できます。ただし、飛行機に近いので見つかる可能性も高く、長く滞在したければ少し下がって撮影することが必要です。また、二重フェンスになっているので障害物が入るのは必至で、これは避けようがありません。ズームインしてF値を下げれば誤魔化すことはできなくもないです。手前のスポットに入ったB777-300ERだと18mm程度で撮影可能です。滑走路上のAn-124は140mm程度です。
This location is just next to the control tower. There are spots for larger planes just in front of you. However, you should be standing away from the fence as you will be very close to the airplane and the security could find you easily. Also, the fence is doubled. If you zoom in and lower the aperture value, you might be able to clear the fence from the image. 18mm for B777-300ER on the spot and around 140mm for An-124 on the runway.
