過去の日記(2019年6月27日):Thinking Like a Child

自分の過去の日記が個人的に興味深かったので、載せてみることにしました。ほぼ、自分のための保存用です。1年前は1年前なりにいろいろ悩んでいたようです。もう少し成長したいものですね笑

Try looking back to a time when you were very young. Were you ever asked to write about your future or your dream? Compare your dreams from back then to where you are currently. I bet a significant portion of the people right now are at a completely different place than where they imagined they would be back then. Back when I was a six years old, my knowledge sphere of the world was a lot smaller than my current self. I probably didn’t consider programmer an occupation until I got into high school. I remember in my freshman/sophomore year I didn’t know which occupation most CS majors became. I would see an opening for a software engineer and think that it was a job opening for someone in a different major.

The more we grow the narrower the number of paths we can take. If I want to obtain a medical degree, first I will have to go back into undergrad and take all of the prerequisite courses. In addition, I would have to try to gain research experience or try to get to know a few professors/researchers to write a letter of recommendation for me. I am already three-four years behind my peers if I wanted to take a doctor route.

I feel like I am at a crossroad right now. The decision I make now and the decisions I make within the course of the next few years may or may not change my life drastically. To start planning for the future, we must first start to figure out our goals: what we want to achieve in our lives, what struggles we don’t want to go through.

I think it might be a good idea to make an XY diagram. My X-axis will represent how much I want to do that activity. My Y-axis will represent how much that activity will benefit my future.
