WHAT I WANT TO DO (EAT) IN SINGAPORE

This year, for the first time for me, I will challenge the foreign full marathon (MEDOC MARATHON) and I will visit Bordeaux, France, in September.
Then, before the marathon and after, I will visit Singapore twice.

Because of several individual situation of myself, “EATING AROUND” is so important.
I made a tentative itinerary what to eat as follows;

I got special interest in viewing “TRADITIONAL vs LOCALISED” in each dish in Singapore.

1: Coffee

2: Laksa

3: Curry

4: Bak Kut Teh

1: Coffee

“KOPI” for YAKUN and Heap Seng Leong, and “Coffee” for Asylum and Nylon Coffee.

Individually I love Specialty Coffee, however, Singaporean traditional KOPI and KAYA TOAST has quite unique charm and culture. Let’s see the both !!

2: Laksa

Laksa is one of the most outstanding dish which has each special character in each area in Singapore and Malaysia. This time I will also walk around in Malaysia to see each difference in each area.

For example in Singapore, what is the character difference between Sungei Road Laksa and KATON LAKSA(GEORGE’S). (I have been to 328 KATON LAKSA before, and I still keep strong impression on it.)

(It is pity I have not so much time and only 2 places I can go.)

3: Curry

I understand basically Indian dishes in Singapore is strongly influenced by Southern Indian Dishes. And Southern Indian style has been keeping its strong tradition.

Then, I wonder if, for example, curry at Nang Yang Old Coffee is different from Indian Traditional curry. How different ??

Also I know that in Malaysia, there is a localized type of Nasi Kandar Biriyani restaurant in Malaysia. Then, there is a Nasi Kandar restaurant in Singapore as well !! Let’s visit and see.

ABC Nasi Kandar

4: Bak Kut Teh

General understanding is that Singapore Bak Kut Teh has strong spice taste and rather white in its color, whereas Malaysian Bak Kut Teh has traditional medicine taste and black in its color.

However, there is a Malaysian traditional type Bak Kut Teh is also in Singapore, 南京街肉骨茶.

I want to see how Singaporean enjoying 南京街肉骨茶.

It opens at 7:00 !! For me as well, it is early to eat MEAT at 7:30. However, I learnt that in Malaysia, they like to eat Bak Kut Teh early in the morning.(maybe because the tradition is that Bak Kut Teh is the dish to generate ENERGY.) Let’s see the early time Bak Kut Teh in the morning !!

Thank you !!
