曲ではないため投稿するか迷いましたが、これもアルバムの一曲として扱われているため投稿いたします！

I say to you this morning
今朝、皆に申しておこう

That if you have never found something so dear
もしあなた方の中に自分が大切に思えるものを、

And so precious to you that you will die for it
命を賭す価値があるものを見出せていない者がいたとしたならば

Then you aren’t fit to live
それは生きるに値しないのだ

You may be thirty-eight years old as I happen to be
この中には私と同じ38歳の者もいるかもしれない

And one day some great opportunity stands before you
いつかあなたの前に大きな転機が立ちはだかることになる

And calls upon you to stand up for some great principle
そして偉大なる道義、問題、大義のために

Some great issue, some great cause
共に立ち上がることを求めるのです

And you refuse to do it
しかしあなたはそれを拒むだろう

Because you are afraid
なぜなら恐れているから

you refuse to do it
あなたはそれを拒むのだ

Because you want to live longer
危ない橋を渡らず長く生きるために

You’re afraid that you will lose your job
食べていけなくなることを恐れているから

Or you’re afraid that you will be criticized
もしくは批判されることを

Or that you will lose your popularity
或いは名声を失うことを

Or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you or shoot at you
もしくは何者かに刺し殺されること、撃ち殺されることを

Or bomb your house
或いは住まいを失うことを恐れているから

And so you refuse to take the stand
共に立ち上がることを拒めば

Well, you may go on and live until you are ninety
そのまま生きながらえ、90の年まで生きれるかもしれない

But you’re just as dead at thirty-eight
しかしその場合38歳の時点で、

As you would be at ninety
90歳で迎えるはずだった死を迎えることになるのです

And the sensation of breathing in your life
そのような人生においてなされる呼吸は、

Is but the belated
もはや生を全うする以前から

announcement of an earlier death of the spirit
精神が屍となったことを知らしめているに過ぎない

You died when you refused to stand up for right
権利を勝ち取るために立ち上がるのを拒む時、

You died when you refused to stand up for truth
真実のために立ち上がるのを拒む時、

You died when you refused to stand up for justice
正義のため立ち上がるのを拒む時、人は死を迎えるのです
