邦題は「抱きしめたい」です。4thシングル「SHE LOVES YOU」に続く、ビビートルズを代表する曲です。邦題賛成派ではありませんが、ビートルズが日本でデビュー（1964年2月5日）したのはこの曲なのです。ですから、邦題は仕方ありませんし、「I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND」と言われても、直訳「手を握りたい」では、なんともですね。レコーディングは17回したそうで、それをオーヴァダビングして完成とのことです。
このキャッチーなシンプルオープニングは、一度聞いたら忘れません。聴けば聴くほど、ジョンとジョージのギター役割があって、興味深い作品でもあります。
