銅の価格は世界経済の先行指標：2023年5月31日（水）

本日の日本経済新聞朝刊に面白い記事が載っていた。ロンドン金属取引所（ＬＭＥ）で取引される銅の３ヵ月先物価格は世界経済の先行指標のようだという記事である。銅は経済のさまざまな分野で需要があり，景気が良くなれば需要が旺盛となり，景気が低迷すると需要が弱まっていくというものである。したがって，３ヵ月先の先物価格は世界経済の動向を先読みしているという。EVシフトによって，銅の需要が堅調に増加していくことになれば，ベースメタルと呼ばれてきた銅は，近い将来にレアメタルと呼ばれるようになるかもしれない。

It discussed the three-month futures price of copper traded on the London Metal Exchange (LME) as a leading indicator of the global economy. Copper is in demand in various sectors of the economy, and its demand increases with a strong economy while weakening during economic downturns. Therefore, the futures price for three months ahead is said to anticipate the trends in the global economy. If the demand for copper continues to steadily increase due to the EV shift, copper, which has been referred to as a base metal, may be called a rare metal in the near future.
