15th Consecutive Day of Intense Heat:August 5th(Saturday)

In Kyoto City, today marks the 15th consecutive day of intense heat (over 35°C) since July 21st (Friday). The minimum temperature has also remained above 25°C, leading to a series of tropical nights. The paved roads of Horikawa Street in Kyoto have become scorching hot, resembling the heat of a bedrock bath, making it feel like walking in a sauna. Although the Doyō no Ushi (midsummer day of the ox) for this summer was on July 30th(Sunday), enduring such prolonged hot days certainly gives the impression that one's physical strength might be weakening somewhere invisibly.

By the way, next week on August 8th (Tuesday) is the 24th solar term, Risshū (立秋), which marks the beginning of autumn. The period between Risshū and Shūbun (秋分) on September 23rd (Saturday) is called "zansho" (残暑) or lingering summer heat. However, this year, it seems that the lingering summer heat during this one and a half month period may be unusually intense compared to previous years.
