昨晩の豊後水道の地震：2024年4月18日（木）

日本では，今朝は睡眠不足の人が多かったのではないだろうか。昨晩の4月17日の午後11時14分に，豊後水道付近を震源とするマグニチュード6.6の地震が起き，愛媛県と高知県で震度6弱の揺れを観測した。この地域で震度6弱の揺れを観測したのは，1996年以降で初めてのことである。

　日本では，こうした地域で新たな揺れを観測すると，懸念されるのが今後起きることが予想されている「南海トラフ地震」との関連である。いまのところ，地震学の専門家からは，今回の地震は「南海トラフ地震」とは直接関係がないとのコメントが主流であるが，南海トラフ地震は前触れがなく突然起きる可能性があるとして，警戒を呼び掛けている。
