皆さん、はじめまして！イコール副代表の鈴木響子です。
すっかり秋になりましたね！美味しいモンブランが店頭に並ぶ時期で、とても嬉しいです…。
ちなみに鈴木のオススメは旬の素材を使ったケーキ屋さん「Foundry」のモンブランです🌰
さて、代表のゆかさんに引き続き、たくさんあるイコールの魅力、そしてジェンダー平等についてお伝えしていきます。
1:イコールって普段なにをやっているの？
さて、前回の２回にわたる投稿でイコール代表のゆかさんが「なぜイコールが誕生したのか？」やイコールの将来について語ってくれました。まだ読んでない方はチェックしてみてください✨
今回は、実際に私たちがどのようにプロジェクトを進めているか、コロナ禍での工夫などをお伝えします。もしnoteを通してイコールに興味を持ってくれた方は、ぜひ近い将来メンバーとしてご一緒できたら嬉しいです❣️
私たちイコールは現在、立命館アジア太平洋大学のプロジェクトBという制度によって助成金をいただきながら1年間活動しています。
私たちのプロジェクトBの中には３つの企画が存在します。
（ここでは一つ一つの説明は割愛させていただきます）
プロジェクト１：ジェンダーカフェ＆セミナー
プロジェクト２：ビデオメッセージ～Reality today and our future～
プロジェクト３：アート×Gender Equality、グッズ販売
プロジェクトBメンバー発足当時の頃はCOVID-19の影響で全くオフラインで活動することができず、同時並行＆分担のマネジメントを行い、円滑に物事を進めて行くことが難しく、もどかしかったです。
それぞれのグループに分かれて活動していますが、週１回の全体ミーティングでは企画について一緒に意見を出し合ったり、話題になっているトピックについて議論をしています。新しいアイディアが出てきたり、新しい視点、時には反対意見など…
最近では、議論が活発になる程より良い企画が生まれ、距離が近くなることでお互いの情報の共有などがスムーズになり、様々な企画が本格化始動しています。楽しみにしていてください！💪
2:私がジェンダー平等に興味を持ったきっかけ
私がジェンダー平等に興味を持ったきっかけは高校の時に経験した交換留学です。
私の派遣された国は当時世界男女平等ランキングでも上位にランクインし、世界的にも評価されているところでした。
実際にしばらく過ごしてみることで、男女共に過ごしやすい環境を体験すること、感じることができました。
しかし、私が一番驚いたことは充実した福祉制度でも、文化による意識の違いでもなく、男女平等を実現しようと努力し続けている国民の方々でした。
当時の私にとって、その国の所得格差はすでにごくわずかという印象でした。しかし、現地の方とお話ししている中で、「どんなに格差が小さくても、50%50%が実現すまで男女平等とは言えないよ。その差の数％をできる限り0にしていかなければならない」という言葉に出会いました。
それまではすごいなぁとしか思っていませんでしたが、たくさんの人たちの努力、そして国民一人一人がマイノリティーの意見を聞き、平等に関して強い意識があるからこそ実現へ向かっているのだと気づきました。
もちろん国によって制度や文化の違いは存在します。ある国のいいところをそのまま取り入れても、ある国では全く通用しません。（Rule makers, Rule breakers という本がとてもよく説明していると思うのでぜひ読んでみてください）
しかし、だからと言って困っている人たちの意見や少数派の意見を軽視・無視することは、社会にとってプラスではないと思います。
もちろん1人の人間が全てのことを解決できる世の中ではありません。なので、私はまずジェンダー平等に関する活動をイコールを通して行っています。
このような出来事から、ジェンダー問題に興味を持ち始めました！まだまだ学ぶことは多いですが、改善を繰り返すことで、多くの人が自分らしく生きられるような世界になれば良いなと願っています。
3: ジェンダーカフェ開催！
私はイコールの中で、ジェンダーカフェという企画を担当しています。
「なんか聞いたことあるな…?」と思った方、そうです。
実は9月30日に第1回目を開催いたしました！👏
今回のトピックはズバリ、「恋愛においての日本と外国のあるある話」です💘
参加者たちの感想
「異なる環境や文化の中で育ってきたことが、私の恋愛観の違いにつながっていると思いました。そして、私の考えは世界の他の国々と共有されていませんでした。」
「日本の悪名高い姑と嫁のライバル関係が外国人に知られていなかったのは興味深い。」
「自分の恋愛観を言葉にしたのは初めてだったので、いい機会でした。」
「ブレイクアウトルームや他のみんなとの議論がとても楽しかったです。」
「異性の恋愛観について深く知れました。」
「ジェンダーカフェはとても素敵で、他の人の文化についての情報がありました。」
ジェンダーカフェは、「イコールとして情報を発信して行くだけではなく、実際に気になるトピックや自分の考えについて話していける場を提供していこう！」という思いから企画しました。
10月から月2回の開催を予定しています。随時、トピックも公開されるので是非ご参加ください！
ちなみに私は、ジェンダー平等を促進するためには、1人1人が日常的に強く意識していくことが大切だと思っています。ぜひみなさんも、イコールを通してふと考えてみたり、イコールを活用して自分の思いを言葉にしてみてください😊

Now, following on from our leader Yuka, we are going to tell you about gender equality and what EQUAL is all about.
1: What does Equal usually do?
Well, in our last 2 posts, our leader Yuka talked about why she established Equal and its future. If you haven’t read it yet, please check it out!✨
Today, we will talk about how we have been working on our projects with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you are interested in EQUAL after reading our post, we would love to have you as a member in the near future!
Until now, we at Equal will be working for a year with a grant from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University’s Project B system.
Within Equal’s Project B, we are planning on conducting 3 separate projects.
Project 1: Gender Café and Seminar
Project 2: Video Message: Reality today and our future
Project 3: Art x Gender Equality, selling goods.
When we had just started Project B, our members could not work offline due to COVID-19, and it was frustrating and difficult to manage to share the workload smoothly.
Although we work in several divisions, we discuss potential projects and topics in weekly general meetings. There, we come up with new ideas, find new perspectives, and even share different opinions.
As of recent, our discussions have been getting more passionate, and so our project ideas have been improving! At the same time, we are becoming closer to one another, sharing more information and starting various projects! Please do look forward to them! 💪
2: What made you so interested in Gender Equality?
I became more interested in gender equality after going on an exchange program in high school.
The place where I went on the exchange was evaluated and ranked very high in gender equality worldwide.
After having spent a lot of time there, I got to experience what it was like living in an environment more comfortable for both men and women.
But what surprised me the most was not a well-developed welfare system or a difference in cultural attitudes, but the people who continue to strive to achieve gender equality.
I actually had the impression that the gender wage gap there was already very small and even negligible.
However, when I talked with the people there, they told me that “no matter how small the disparity is, until it is 50-50, it is not equality. We have to bring that percentage as close to zero as possible”.
At the time, all I could think was “Woah, that’s amazing”. But then I realized that it has been possible because every citizen is listening to the opinions of minorities and that they are working towards achieving this because they have a strong awareness about achieving equality.
Of course, ideologies and cultures vary between countries. Just because something works well in one country does not mean we can just take it as it is and apply it somewhere else. (I believe a book called ‘Rule Makers, Rule Breakers’ explains this in more depth and I highly recommend you read it.)
However, that does not mean that we as a society should make light of, or even ignore the needs of minorities and those in need.
Of course, we don't live in a world where one person can solve everything. Therefore, I started working on gender equality through EQUAL.
From that point, I started to get really interested in gender equality! We still have a lot to learn, but I hope that with constant improvement, we can create a world where many people can live their lives the way they want.
3: Tell us about the Gender Café!
As a part of Equal, I held the Gender Café event!
If you were thinking “Gender Café? That sounds familiar”, well that may be because we just held the first one recently! It was on the 30th of September, last month! 👏
The Gender Café was not only an event for Equal to share but was a place where everyone was free to discus their opinions about topics they are passionate about!
This time, the Gender Cafe’s topic was “Romantic Relationships in Japan and Abroad”. 💘
I was nervous, as it was the first time holding the event. However 15 participants applied, and we got to discuss with APU students coming from a total of six different countries!
After the event, the participants commented:
“I realized that my upbringing in a different environment and culture has led me to have a different view of love. And that my view was not shared with the rest of the world.”
“It was interesting that Japan’s infamous mother-in-law and daughter-in-law rivalries were very unknown to foreigners.”
“It was the first time for me to put into words my own view about love, so it was a nice opportunity.”
“I really liked the discussions in the breakout room and with everyone else.”
“I guess I got more insight about the opposite gender.”
“The gender café was very nice and informative of other people's culture.”
The participants had a lot of fun! Even as an organizer, it was very exciting to listen to the conversation and it was interesting to hear different opinions about love! In fact, the contents of the discussion will be uploaded to Instagram! And you can also view it when you participate in our next event, so please join us next time and take a look!
From now, I guess we will try to improve where we can and hold an even better Gender Café!
We plan to bring our next Gender Café on the 21st of October! Soon, we’ll release the topic of the event through our official Instagram and LINE! We are looking forward to seeing you there!
At the end of the day, in order to promote equality, I think it is important for everyone to reflect on current gender issues in their daily lives. I encourage everyone to ponder on gender equality through EQUAL as well as to put those thoughts into words 😊
