ムラサキ目、ムラサキ科、キュウリグサ属

タイトルの学名が表すのは『三角耳の花柄』
花を見たとてそんなイメージはなく、これは
花の後の実がなる時の形状を表したもの。

一般には胡瓜草（キュウリグサ）と呼ばれる
植物であり、その葉を揉むとキュウリの様な
匂いがする事に由来し、洋名も同じ由来名。

これの花は、直径は２ｍｍの極小花。
０．５ｍｍのシャープペンシルの芯４本分。

それでも上には上…、いや、この場合は違い、
下には下があるもので、直径１ｍｍの花もある
訳で、どちらにせよ撮影がとってもしづらい。

『先生、これの花が上手く撮れません』仲間の
女子が、ハイキングの時に被写体が小さくて
ピンが合わず撮影できない時にヘルプコールが
起きる場面がこの手の極小花では起きる。

スマホのオートフォーカスだとこの花にピント
が合わず、背後のものにピントが合う。こんな
時の対処法は、対象の花の近くのものにピント
合わせしフォーカスロックを起動させピントを
固定したまま、被写体にレンズを向けスマホを
前後に微調整して位置合わせ、『これベスト』
のタイミングでシャッターを切ると撮れる。

キュウリグサのこの花は、色が淡いことも撮影
しづらい理由となる。自信がない人は微調整の
中で何枚かを撮ってベストなものをチョイスし
不要な写真を削除するのも良いと思う。

花の形や色が似るのがワスレナグサ。全く別種
の植物となっており、キュウリグサのその花は
ワスレナグサの花弁一枚分のサイズ。

これらを撮り比べて眺めるのも面白い。

Genus Glechoma The scientific name in the title means "triangular ears on flower stems."

Despite not evoking such an image when looking at the flower, it actually depicts the shape when the fruit forms after the flower. Generally known as ground ivy (Glechoma), this plant derives its name from the cucumber-like scent emitted when its leaves are crushed, hence the common and scientific names.

The flowers of this plant are extremely tiny, with a diameter of 2mm, about the size of four 0.5mm mechanical pencil leads.

Nonetheless, there's always something smaller; in this case, there are flowers with a diameter of 1mm, making photography extremely challenging.

Scenes like a fellow hiker calling out, "Teacher, I can't seem to capture this flower well," occur with such extremely small subjects when they struggle to focus due to their minuscule size during hikes.

With smartphone autofocus, the focus often fails to lock onto these flowers, instead focusing on the background. In such cases, adjusting the focus by locking onto something near the target flower, keeping the focus locked, then aligning the lens with the subject while making slight adjustments forward and backward can help capture the moment when it's best to take the shot.

The pale color of Glechoma flowers also contributes to the difficulty in photographing them. For those lacking confidence, I think taking several shots during the adjustment process and selecting the best one while deleting unnecessary photos is a good approach.

Another plant with similar flower shapes and colors is forget-me-nots. Despite their resemblance, they are entirely different species, with Glechoma flowers being the size of a single forget-me-not petal.

Comparing and observing these plants side by side can be quite fascinating.
