キンポウゲ目、ケシ科、ケシ属
和名では、長実雛芥子 （ナガミヒナゲシ）

春の到来を知らせてくれる鮮やかなオレンジ色
がとても可愛い妖精の登場である。

家から会社までの通勤路にある踏切、いつも
ここで私は足止めを喰らう訳だが、そんな時の
退屈な電車の通過待ちの時間も、私にとっては
ネット型植物図鑑の写真集めの良い時間となる。

この植物は、一株あたりでばら撒くその種は
１,０００〜２,０００個とも云われる程である。

これの種は掌に載せるとまあ良く転がるもの。
ルーペで見ると完全なる球形であり、本当に
面白いほどに良く転がる。

そして、この種の比重があまりにも軽すぎて
掌の上に種を置き軽く息を吹きかけるだけで
一瞬で全が飛び去ってしまうほどである。

このナガミヒナゲシの種の大きさは、アンパン
の上に乗る芥子（ケシ）の実の更に半分くらい。
これは道路の隙間などにジャストフィットして
翌年にこれが発芽してまた鮮やかな花が咲く。

この植物の戦略をまとめると

・種の量が１,０００〜２,０００個と多いこと
・種が真球に近い形状でよく転がること
・種の比重が軽いため、遠くまで拡散すること
・種の発芽率がとても高く、優秀であること

Field Poppy (Papaver rhoeas)

The vibrant orange heralds the arrival of spring, like the appearance of adorable fairies.

At the level crossing on my daily commute from home to work, I often find myself delayed. However, even during the tedious wait for the train to pass, it becomes a good time for me to collect photos for my online plant encyclopedia.

It is said that each plant of this species scatters seeds numbering from 1,000 to 2,000.

The seeds of this plant roll quite well when placed in the palm. When viewed under a magnifying glass, they are perfectly spherical and roll remarkably well, which is quite fascinating.

Moreover, the seeds of this species are so light that they can easily be blown away with a gentle breath when placed on the palm.

The size of the seeds of Nagami Hinageshi is about half the size of a poppy seed on top of an anpan. They fit perfectly into the crevices of roads and bloom into vibrant flowers the following year.
