Weekly question #25 Is Japan a welcoming place for tourists?

This is my article about weekly question from 英語手帳 2024. The theme in May is "Post-COVID travels" （コロナ後の旅行事情）.




Weekly question: Is Japan a welcoming place for tourists?

Yes, I think Japan is a welcoming place for tourists. I see many tourists, both Japanese and foreign, coming to the popular spots nearby these days. They seem to enjoy views, shopping, and foods. 

I was also concerned about the overcrowding issues in popuar spots. The news on the radio program was talking about blocking the view of Mt. Fuji due to the misbehaving tourists. I understand how people would want to take best shots of the mountain. It's beautiful. But it's dangerous to go out to the busy road. A safe trip is better. The town officials must have made a difficult decision to block the beautiful view. 

日本は観光客を歓迎する国ですか？

日本は観光客を歓迎しています。有難いことで、近隣の観光地でも、日本人、外国人どちらも、観光客が増えています。景色や、食べ物、買い物など、皆さん思い思いに楽しまれていますね。

最近、聞いたラジオニュースで、富士山の撮影スポットを目隠しすることになったことを取り上げていました。観光客が増えることは有難いですが、考えさせられることも出てきますね。美しい富士山の写真を撮りたい気持ちはよくわかります。私も近場でも綺麗だなと思う景色を撮ろうと思いますから。上手く撮れないけどね（笑）写真を撮る為に、車が多い道路に出たりするのは危険ですよね。迎える側である町の職員方も、仕方なく、幕を設置せざるを得なかったのだと思います。怪我や事故に遭わないように、旅を楽しいんでほしいなと思います。
