Hello. I am SC from the intercultural communication course. I would like to talk about my graduation research project. Before I start with my research, I would like to introduce myself.
I grew up on Amami Island 🏝️ in Kagoshima Prefecture until I graduated from high school. The local dialect of Amami Island – Amami Go is a dialect that is in danger of extinction, like a foreign language.

I thought that in order to save the dialect from extinction, it would not be enough to pass it on to the people on the island only, because the population is small 👶.
So I came up with the idea to research what kind of short clip videos 🎞️ could be used to spread Amami Go to people outside of the island. I used short clip videos because they are a very popular tool on social media at the moment.
I made a total of four short clip videos 🎬🎬🎬🎬, two of each type, and tested which one was more popular or not.

I conducted a survey and received more than 200 responses with the help of many of my friends 😎. They helped me spread it as I have few friends outside the island. The research results were interesting because they were the opposite of what I expected 😱.

I then compiled my research and the results into a video 📽️. I was able to combine footages from my favourite hometown into my favourite video too. I also have fond memories of driving 🚗 around Amami Island to take videos for my project when I went back home. You can see the results below and I would like to encourage everyone reading this blog to take a look. My research is limited to Amami Go, now I am very curious to see if this is the same for other dialects, so I would be very happy if someone would do a research project similar to this... please tell me 📢!

There are many processes involved in research 💭, such as deciding on a research question, thinking about how to do the research, looking for theories 📖 that can be used in your research, reading previous research, and so on. These processes seem difficult and daunting. Before I did my research, I was tired 💤💤💤 of thinking about those processes. However, I found research is fun if it's about an issue that I really care about and like.
I'm super-duper lazy 🛌, but I enjoyed my research project and I can assure you that I did! I also thought it was very interesting and rewarding, although I sometimes wondered what I would do if I failed, but the opposite to my anxiety was that the assumptions I had confidently set up ended up with different results 🤷‍♀️. Nonetheless, I am very proud to be able to show my project video to family and friends who helped me as a proof of my growth 🎓. I hope that you too will have a satisfying and enjoyable research experience ☺️.
