December 22, 2022: Studying English Grammar, No End to Learning (英文法の勉強、学びに終わりなし)

It has been about three years since I began to study English grammar. I have done it almost every day. First, I started it with Murphy’s English Grammar in Use. I worked on it twice and, in turn, tried Hewings’ Advanced Grammar in Use. But it was too difficult for me to understand. The more I used time for it, the more I felt as if I wasted time. So, I gave it up and then switched to Swan’s English Grammar Course Advanced. Among these books is the third one, which is the most appropriate for me. It is easy to understand and has a lot of exercises. I will soon complete my second effort for it. It improves my English grammar further. However, the more I study English grammar, the more I have what I do not understand. Even if I complete the second effort, I still have a lot of things I do not understand. So, I am going to start it over again. It is the third time. But I will probably still have lots of things I do not understand. These practices have gradually improved my English grammar, but I seem lost in a maze with no end and will have to continue to study English grammar for all time. It reminds me that there is no end to learning.

　英文法の勉強を初めてかれこれ3年経ちます。ほぼ毎日欠かさず、続けています。最初は、「English Grammar in Use」で勉強をはじめ、この本を2周しました。その後、「Advanced Grammar in Use」に挑戦しましたが、難し過ぎてギブアップしました。この本に時間をかければかけるほど、時間を無駄にしている気になりました。そのため、「English Grammar Course: Advanced」に切り替えました。
　この3冊の中では、「English Grammar Course: Advanced」がボクには一番合っていました。この本は、分かり易く、問題の豊富です。まもなく、2周目が終わるところです。文法力は向上しているはずです。でも、英文法を勉強すればするほど、分からないことも増えます。今使っている本を2回終えても、分からないことがあります。そこで、もう一度やり直す予定です。これで3回目です。3回やっても多分、分からないことがあると思います。勉強すると文法力は徐々に向上しますが、終わりのない迷路に入り込んだ気分です。そして、この先ずっと英文法の勉強を続けていそうです。「学びに終わりなし」の心境です。
