November 19, 2021：ポルトガル、新労働法、タコ料理 (Portugal, New Labour Laws, Octopus Dishes)
Portugal, the westernmost country of the Eurasian Continent, is attracting foreign entrepreneurs and freelancers. It also has a digital nomad village in Madeira Island. The country’s lawmakers passed new labour laws which ban bosses from calling, text messaging and emailing staff out of working hours, improving work-life balance in response to an expansion of working from home in the country.
In the past, I had a similar experience. My rude bosses and colleagues repeatedly called me on my day off and out of my working hours. They also sent emails all day and all night. It is Japan that needs the new Portuguese laws.
I have been to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, on business many times. It is one of the few European countries which have octopus dishes. Portuguese food is one of my favourites since some of them are similar to Japanese ones. In particular, the octopus risotto is delicious.
ユーラシア大陸の最西端にあるポルトガルは、海外の起業家やフリーランスの誘致に力をいれているらしい。マデイラ島には、「デジタルノマドビレッジ」まであるそうだ。そんな国で新法が施行される。雇用者に対し、勤務時間外に電話やメッセージ、電子メールで従業員に連絡することを禁じる法律らしい。
これについては、ぼくも忌々しい思い出がある。休日にもかかわらず、厚かましく電話をしてくる上司。平日でも就業時間後に電話してくる人。メールは昼夜を問わず入ってきました。怒り心頭の日々でした。この法律は日本にこそ必要です。
ポルトガルにも何度も出張しました。ポルトガル料理は欧州の料理のなかでもお気に入りの一つです。特に、タコが入ったおじやは絶品です。ポルトガルはタコが食べられる珍しい国です。
