February 6, 2023: Spain, Valencia, Germany（スペイン、バレンシア、ドイツ）
I read Ike-san's article about the best country to live in. It says that the best city is Valencia in Spain. That reminded me that I had been there about thirty years ago. It was my first overseas business trip to see toy fairs in Germany and Spain. But I was too nervous to enjoy it.
I first visited Nuremberg, Germany. The city was so beautiful that I wanted to live there. Then, I moved to Valencia. It was different from Nuremberg. As I felt in more danger than in Nuremberg, I was reluctant to go outside my hotel. At that time, I was ignorant of Europe. I did not know that all the shops were closed on Sundays. So I entered no shops in Valencia. Thirty years later, all the shops now seem to open on Sundays. The largest department store in Spain, El Corte Ingles, opens from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on Sunday. However, all stores in Germany have still closed on Sundays.
池さんの「住みたい国」に関する記事を読みました。この記事によると世界で一番住みやすい都市は、スペインのバレンシアらいしです。これを読んで、30年ぐらい前にこの街へ行ったのを思い出しました。初めての海外出張がドイツのニュールンベルクとバレンシアでした。目的はおもちゃショーの見学でした。初めての出張で緊張の連続で全く楽しめませんでした。
最初にドイツのニュールンベルクにいったのですが、古い街並みに感激して住んでみたくなりました。その後、バレンシアに移動したのですが、ニュールンベルクとは街並みや雰囲気が全く違いました。少し危険も感じたので、ホテルからあまりでませんでした。また、その当時は欧州について無知で、日曜日は店が閉まっていることを知りませんでした。おかげ、バレンシアでは、店に入れませんでした。
30年超を経た今は、日曜日も営業しているようです。スペインの大手デパートのエルコルトイングレスは夜の10時までやっているようです。でも、ドイツでは、日曜日は店が閉まっているようです。
