December 1, 2021: 養老孟司さん、英語、文化の違い、関西、東京 (Takeshi Yoro, English, Cultural Differences, Kansai, Tokyo)

 I was fascinated by a YouTube program by Takeshi Yoro. In the program, he talks about his experiences with English-speaking people. His first talk is about an American who failed to communicate in English when he was in Australia. The second one is about an Australian who found British people arrogant when he was in the UK.
 He also talks about how to deal with cultural differences in a foreign country. He advises us not to surrender and take them seriously. The cultures have developed over a long time, and there is nothing we can do about them. As he says, we cannot afford to surrender them to survive in a foreign country with different cultures. We have to accept and adjust to them.
The same goes for Japan. There are notable differences in cultures between the Kansai Region and the Greater Tokyo Area. Unagi, a member of the comedy duo Ginshari, has found a significant difference in the point of laughter between these areas.

　養老孟司さんの英語に関するYouTubeが面白い。米国人から、オーストラリア英語は英語ではないと言われたとか、オーストラリア人が英国人は横柄だと言っていたなど、米国、オーストラリアと英国の人たちについて語っている。
　また文化の違いの話もある。「文化的な違いで起こる問題にはめげないこと。差別だと騒がないこと大事。相手は、しょうがないと思っている。生まれたときからこうなのだからどうしようもないと思っている。」
　確かに、外国の文化の違いにめげているようでは生きてゆけない。それを受け止め、自分を変えていくしかない。
　これは、国内でも同じかもしれない。漫才師の銀シャリの鰻さんに言わせると関西と東京の笑いはまったく違うらしい。関西で笑いをとれる表現が東京ではまったく通じないことがあるそうです。
