May 3, 2022: BBC’s Drama Series, MotherFatherSon, Silk, Smoking Scenes （BBCのドラマ、マザー・ファーザー・サン、王室弁護士マーサ・コステロ、喫煙シーン）
As described in my previous articles, I am now crazy about the films on Amazon’s Prime Video. Among them are BBC’s TV drama series, which have fascinated me very much.
One of them is MotherFatherSon, a series starring Richard Gear. It is the story of a media empire family and depicts feuds between the father and the mother and son. I was drawn to the performance of Billy Howle, who plays the son. I was also surprised by the ending, which suggests that nothing beats the bond of the family. I am now watching Silk series 1. It is a courtroom drama series and shows the British legal system and the relationship between lawyers and judges. It has three series so that I still can enjoy them.
I am very puzzled to see so many smoking scenes in them. In particular, Silk has them countless times. Since England implemented a smoking ban in the enclosed workplaces in 2007, it has encouraged quitting smoking. Nevertheless, the drama has so many smoking scenes. It means that lawyers need smoking to survive.
以前にも書いたとおり、最近はアマゾン プライムにはまっています。その中でも、BBC（英国放送）製作のドラマがめちゃくちゃ面白い。「プレス」に続いて「マザー・ファーザー・サン」を観た。リチャードギア主演のドラマ。メディア帝国を築いたギアとの一家の確執とを描いた作品。ギアの息子役を演じるビリーハウルの演技に引き込まれました。家族に勝る物なしで終わる結末も面白かったです。
今は、「王室弁護士マーサ・コステロ」のシリーズ1を観ています。こちらは、法廷ドラマ。英国の司法制度や弁護士と裁判官の関係性が垣間見えます。こちらは、シーズン3まであるので当面楽しめそうです。
BBCのドラマを観ていて感じるのは、喫煙の場面がすごく多いことです。特に、法廷ドラマでは、これでもかと思うほど喫煙場面が出てきます。イングランドでは、2007年に屋内の公共空間を全面禁煙にする法律が施行されて以来、禁煙するよう推奨されてきました。にも関わらず、シルクには多くの喫煙シーンがあります。弁護士が生き残るには喫煙が必要なようです。
