October 29, 2022: Koji Nakamoto (3), Dutch Traffic Signs, Dutch Way of Thinking （仲本工事さんの死（3）、オランダの交通標識、オランダの考え方(2))

After I turned right and drove for a while, I found myself heading in the opposite direction to my home. Thus, I got off the motorway and returned to the entrance. Then, I asked myself if I should turn right or left and decided to turn right again. As a result, I repeated the mistake and returned there again. This time, I was determined to turn left so as not to make the same mistake. After I drove for a while, I found myself heading in the right direction. Finally, I arrived home safely.
Later, I found that I should have turned left as I did not intend to head toward the town on the sign. In other words, having no traffic sign means heading somewhere other than the town on a sign. I needed time to get used to the Dutch way of thinking.

　でも、車をしばらく走らせると、反対の方向に向かっているのがわかり、高速を下りて元の入口に戻りました。そこで、どっちにいくか考えたのですが、また、右に向かってしまいました。結果は、さっきと同じで、また入口に戻ってきてしまいました。今度は、同じ間違いを繰り返さないよう、今度は左折しました。しばらくすると、正しい方向に向かっていることが分かり、無事、家に帰り着きました。
　その後、よく考えた結果、標識に書かれている街の方面に向かう気はなかったのだから、左折すればよかったのです。つまり、標識がないことは、標識のある方面以外に向かうという意味だったのです。オランダの考え方に慣れるのに時間がかかりました。
