【ちょっと洗練された気分で】ビジネス文書に出てくるラテン語

G’day! みなさま、こんにちは。ラテン語ってなんだか響きが素敵ですよね。よく目にするetc.やviaなどもラテン語ですが、大学などのモットーなどにもラテン語が使用されてたりします。ちなみに私の母校のモットーは“Scientia Manu et Mente (Knowledge by Hand and Mind)”なのですが、とてもかっこよくて気に入ってます。ということで、今日はちょっと洗練された気分になる、ビジネス文書で見かけるラテン語をご紹介したいと思います。

文書などで、よく目にするのはざっとこんな感じです。

では、使用例を見ていきましょうね♪

Interim
The company paid 10 yen per share as an interim dividend for the current period.
当期においては中間配当として1株当たり10円を実施しました。

Pro and con
I’m sure there are both pros and cons, but I think this project is productive.
賛否両論あると思いますが、このプロジェクトは有益だと思います。

Bona fide
John went through many trials and errors, but he is now a bona fide rock star.
ジョンは紆余曲折あったが、彼は今や正真正銘のロックスターです。

De facto
In fact, several technologies were already widely used in Japan and have become the de facto standard.
実際には日本においてもいくつかの技術はすでに幅広く利用され、事実上のスタンダードになっている。

Pro bono
Mr. Smith gave advice on copyrights on a pro bono basis.
スミス氏は無償で著作権について助言した。

Pro forma
Pro forma financial statements for this newly acquired company were used in the consolidated financial statements.
新たに買収した企業の仮決算を連結財務諸表に使用しました。

Ad hoc
The committee members can set up meetings on an ad hoc basis for urgent and important issues.
委員会のメンバーは緊急及び重要な事項に関する場合に臨機応変に会議を開催することが可能です。

Status quo
The company is not satisfied with the status quo, but will strive to make further improvements.
当社は現状に満足するのではなく、さらなる改善を目指し努力してまります。

Per annum
The remuneration amount for directors is set at up to 3 million yen per annum.
取締役の報酬額は年3百万円以内に設定しております。

Pro rata
Depreciation expenses applicable to the current fiscal year are calculated on a pro rata basis over the quarterly periods.
連結会計年に係る減価償却費の額を期間按分して算定しています。

Pari passu
