英語日記 No. 65

For the past week, I’ve been immersed in reading articles about the conflicts in the Middle East, Ms. Hasina’s resignation in Bangladesh, the U.S. presidential election, and the U.K. riots. Among these, I feel particularly worried about the situation in Bangladesh because my daughter’s husband has many relatives and friends in Dhaka. The ongoing student protests since July 1 have caused significant disruptions, and it seems businesses are struggling with the current events and what might come next.

I’m also reading a Japanese book that contains essays by 27 women writers reflecting on their teenage lives during the war. Some of them wrote about student mobilization in 1943. We made a grave mistake by losing so many talented young students during the war. Reflecting on peace, I truly hope that young Japanese in the future can pursue their careers without ever having to go to war.
