英語日記　No.62

I have enjoyed reading articles about the state visit to Britain by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. The events were marked by a serene atmosphere, highlighting British traditions. 

When I saw pictures of Empress Masako at Oxford University on social media, I was struck by how relaxed she seemed, her smile gleamimg. I felt happy to see her shining smile. Women in their 50s, including myself, feel a sense of closeness because we are in the same generation. 

When she decided to marry the present emperor, I hoped that she would be able to utilize her diplomatic skills even within the deeply patriarchal imperial family. However, she encountered many obstacles. When I saw her smile during the state visit to Britain, I realized that she was finally able to demonstrate her abilities to the public.
