【Inside beBit】Executive Officer - Tomohiro HAZEYAMA

Inside beBit - A project in which we ask 10 questions about a beBit member's work and personal life.
Our third installment is with Tomohiro Hazeyama, Executive Officer at beBit.

Tomohiro HAZEYAMA

Education:Keio University, University of Wollongong(MBA)
Career:Led numerous projects in customer experience transformation and establishing new businesses at consulting firms such as PwC and Sigmaxyz. Afterwards, he engaged in several companies as a manager in starting new businesses, organization management, and corporate management. He then joined beBit in 2018.

1:Tell us more about your background

beBit is actually my 9th company. Through my core skill of services marketing theory, I have been involved in business transformation and service launches. Service marketing is the basis of CRM and CEM, so I feel it has been quite useful even after I started working in the UX industry at beBit. I enjoy dynamic, fast paced environments and have been working in startup~venture business development. At beBit, I am responsible for the launch of the Customer Success team and developing business systems (including sales and marketing), and have been in my current position since January 2022.

2:Why did you join beBit?

The reason I joined was because the person I used to work on CEM projects and venture business development with (who had joined beBit a few months prior to me) had invited me to join. At the time, I was working for a large publicly listed company helping AI vendors enter the Japanese market and developing a business for swallowing disorder patient foods. I was interested in the industry beBit is in (USERGRAM), in addition to the business stage the company was in as well.


3:Tell us about your department’s responsibilities and missions

Currently, as the head of the Product Design team, I strive to “contribute to businesses by confronting the target market and providing planning, development, and operational support for products while understanding the client’s desires.” As a team, we not only develop products - we also ensure that clients can use the product effectively as well (through customer support and technical support). We believe our work is not done when the product is finished.


4:What does your team do best in the company?

I believe our team loves USERGRAM the most. Because of this, we love when new sales go through and when the customers feel the value of the product. We are saddened when a customer churns, no matter what the reason, so we work to build a product that customers will utilize for as long as possible. Also, on a different note, the Product Design team is unique in that it is formed by the most international and culturally diverse individuals in the company!

5:Tell us one thing you like most about beBit

A member who recently joined said they “also received an offer from a company that strives to be a 1 trillion yen business, but felt they would rather strive for 1 trillion smiles” and chose to join beBit. This is the mindset that many of our members come in with. While we must reach many stretch goals as a startup, it is great that we keep a healthy work environment and mindset.


6:Tell us how members who (may) work with you should communicate with you

My first career was as a tour conductor at a travel agency, and I inherently enjoy providing great UX to customers. Recently, I’ve been in charge of a lot of backend administrative work, but I don’t mind working with customers to come up with solutions. I would be happy to be involved in planning discussions, even if I seem busy. Since I have experience working at 9 companies, I’m pretty sure I could be of some assistance!


7:What do you value most in your work?

I always try to keep in mind that “the business is the center of my work, not myself.” When I was younger, I tended to think about what I wanted to do and how I could improve my own skills. As I started managing projects, I have come to believe that “focusing on the business” is an essential requirement for leaders and managers. I have the impression that those who work focusing on the business and how they can contribute end up more successful as well.


8:Tell us your goals in your department, mid- to long-term vision, and what you expect from your team members

It may sound cliché, but we aim to polish our products and utilize the products to contribute to the success of our clients. We are not yet in a state where our products drive our business, but together we would like to make this the case in the medium run. I believe our products will evolve in the second half of this year, and would like to keep up the pace aggressively.


9:Is there anything you would like to keep in mind for the future of beBit?

As our business expands and our organization grows, I would like the organization, along with myself, to always keep a future-oriented mindset. If we do not take an approach to bring the current situation into the ideal future state, we will not be able to keep up with the “people” aspect of the rapid growth. This is a situation I would like to avoid.


10:Finally, a passionate message for the employees!

Even while the population declines and it is said that we are in a low-growth society, I feel very fortunate to be working at a company that is in a dynamic phase of growth. However, we are not a business with an established success model, so we must understand that our future growth depends on us. With this in mind, let’s enjoy this ride together!
