【Inside beBit】 UX Design - Makino-san
Inside beBit - A project in which we ask 10 questions about a beBit member's work and personal life. We hope that “Inside beBit” will provide an opportunity to get to know more about the individuals you work with.

１：Tell us about your background
I move between music and business.
Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo (Micromachine Research)
→South America (Music Training)
→Komatsu Ltd. (Developed unmanned dump trucks in Latin America and planned/developed ICT services for distributors.)
→Graduate School at Tokyo University of the Arts (Ethnomusicology)
→beBit (UX Consultant)
２：Why did you join beBit?
The people are young, weird, and virtuous.
Since I was planning on starting my doctorate program, one requirement for me was that I could attend doctorate school twice a week on weekdays (While working weekends to cover my days off). As a result, I found beBit, which had a high degree of freedom. I also received offers from major consulting firms under the same conditions, but I joined beBit because of its young age range, tolerance for diverse lifestyles, and high spirituality.
３：Please tell us about the work you do at beBit
Food and beverage × on-site consulting.
I often handle projects that promote the food and beverage × on-site, such as restaurants, prototyping of recipe apps, etc.
I am very particular about food, so I enjoy it. On the other hand, many of the times there are no precedents so I have to come up with ideas on the spot.
４：Tell us what you value most when working
Don’t leave feelings of discomfort unattended.
When designing experience at beBit, it is very important to imagine other people. Discomfort is a sensor that catches the gap or lack of that imagination.
When I feel this, I make sure I can imagine it correctly by writing notes or discussing it with my supervisor.
Honesty to value.
It is normal for people to think about self-preservation and looking good to others. At beBit, each individual acts with “bringing value to the project” at the core.
Because of this, there is no unnecessary communication, which is very pleasant.
６：What surprised you the most when you joined beBit?
The fact that people tell me what I lack very honestly.
I received feedback on what I am lacking every day. It was an extreme change compared to my previous lifestyle, but I believe I have gotten pretty used to it.

７：What’s something about you that hasn’t changed since you were a child?
Otaku × Otaku = An amazing person
Since becoming an Otaku in different genres, I love combining them.
Engineering × Spanish, ethnomusicology × UX, food and beverage × UX, music × photography - they’re all a lot of fun.
８：Please tell us about your talent, or anything you are proud of
I can serve a massive barbeque for 40 people - alone!
In South America, including the Andes, there are frequent BBQs. Each person received a course meal with over 1kg of meat. At beBit, there are occasionally parties (with measures to reduce the risk of infection) in which I am in charge of cooking for. Tasting the difference between the red meat from countries like Japan and the US is exciting.
９：What do you do during your free time?
Performance tours & photo studio business.
I perform folklore, Andean music, with professional musicians both from Japan and abroad.
As a result of getting into photography, I take profile photos at studios and do artist shoots. Similar to UX, I enjoy the smiles on people’s faces when I successfully contribute.
１０：Tell us about any challenges you would like to attempt
More freedom in work.
I am working from various locations and hours and would like to increase the number of performance tours and photo studio gigs I mentioned in the 9th question, while also improving the quality of my projects.
Thankfully, my manager is understanding, so I hope I am able to find a comfortable balance between my personal and work life.
