The title:People today are losing time to technology, how can we regain our leisure time?

Technology was supposedly created to make human life easier.

However, despite the availability of smartphones, computers, and the Internet, many people have little time to relax.

Why do people today have so little time despite the development of technology?

How can we regain time?

Ruth Ogden, a professor of psychology at Liverpool John Moores University in the UK, and her colleagues have pointed out the following about the phenomenon of decreasing free time despite the development of technology.

"Digital technology may help us save time, but there is growing evidence that we are doing more and more tasks with that time."

They found that people are packing some tasks into their spare time to avoid creating a void in their lives, and that some tasks cannot be performed without technology.

For example, time spent waiting for the bus, which used to be spent just dawdling, free time right after waking up in the morning or lying in bed at night, is nowadays spent creating game applications, checking social networking sites or watching videos.

So the time people think of to do nothing and just sprawl out is disappearing.

One of the reasons for the increase in digital tasks in today's society is that people today want to get closer to the perfect life they see on the Internet.

Originally, people found satisfaction in "eating dinner," "watching TV," or "exercising," but today people are no longer satisfied with these activities and tend to cram in tasks to avoid wasting time.

Technology has made it possible to accomplish a variety of tasks in a shorter amount of time.

For example, online banking allows people to send and receive money without having to go to the bank during their lunch break at work, which should theoretically free up more time for shita.

However, as a result of these fine digital tasks and leisure time being crammed into so much of our lives, people today are living more densely than ever before.

In addition, many people check social networking sites and video streaming sites in their spare time.

Ruth Ogden and colleagues found that people often feel guilt and regret when they spend their free time on online activities.

This suggests that people still find more value in real-life activities than online, they said.

Changes in work due to the development of technology have also contributed to the decrease in leisure time for people today.

For example, many people have found that the boundary between work and private life has become blurred as a result of the increase in telecommuting due to the widespread use of e-mail and videoconferencing.

As a result of the shift from the office to the home, people can now work after putting their children to bed, and there is a danger that they will lose time to relax.

Before e-mail and videoconferencing, it was commonplace to have face-to-face conversations with each other or to wait until a letter was answered.

Today, however, work can be exchanged anywhere with a PC or smartphone, and we are bombarded with requirements to respond to incessantly.

There is also a pattern, Ruth Ogden and his colleagues noted, where poorly designed technology is introduced, which in turn increases the amount of work required.

As a result of this increased work effort, they said, there is a risk of increased pressure, worsening stress and fatigue, and sometimes even burnout.

Ruth Ogden and his colleagues believe that modern people may need to fundamentally change the way they allocate their time in order to make up for the time lost to technology.

The most important thing in getting out of the habit of cramming more and more tasks into the gaps is to accept that it is okay to have time to do nothing.

It is also important for employers to create a work environment where employees are not expected to always be available on their phones or computers, and where it is normal for them to be unreachable.
