I took a virtual class!

Did you have a chance to see the live class that was held the other day?
It was our first attempt, but we think we were able to convey the use and appeal of AVOS in an easy-to-understand way by having you experience the class firsthand.

If you haven't seen it yet, please do so!

For more information on class preparation and precautions, please refer to this article, and in this article I will report on the class from a student's perspective.

Just like in a real school, a chime sounds and the teacher takes attendance.
The chime reminds me of my school days.
The virtual school attendance style is also the same: the teacher calls out names and students respond.

The teacher wears Meta Quest 2 (VR headset) to class.
Although we cannot see facial expressions, we can see eye contact with the teacher, and hand movements are smooth.
It even recreates the teacher walking around the podium, something I've seen a lot during class!

Since you cannot operate the PC while wearing the VR headset, an assistant with a different account is in charge of the PC work, such as sharing the screen and displaying images.

Teacher and Assistant

In this class, the teacher gave an explanation while watching a video previously taken on Youtube.
Once the video material is taken, it can be used when teaching the same content, which will reduce the teacher's workload.
There is nothing strange about teaching while watching a video.
Even though I was not sitting in front of the screen, I did not find it difficult to see the screen.

Assistant watching over the teacher's class

Several times during the course of the session, the teacher's voice was muted.
At this time, it is not immediately clear whether it is a problem on our end or on the teacher's end. If the problem persists after a short wait, we ask the teacher.
In the case of students who actually take the class in mute, do they ask questions to the teacher in the chat?
Since classes are held in real time, problems can occur.
There have been times when the assistant has suddenly disappeared.

Assistant is gone...

When the assistant logs out, the videos and images shared on the PC that the assistant was operating will be lost.
We ask the assistant to come back, set up the same way, and resume the class.

Teacher explaining the parts that are difficult to see in the video while drawing them with a 3D pen.

In the second half of the day, there was time to ask questions directly to the teacher and have them explained on the spot.
This is the same as in an actual class.
Even if you don't speak up, you can always ask questions in the chat room if you want to, without looking at the timing.
You can also react with 3D pictograms such as clapping, smiling, and hearts, although I completely forgot about this during the class.
I think this area is interesting only in the virtual space.

This was my first time taking a virtual class, and the 50 minutes flew by!
This time we were watching a video, but I think that a text-based class or a conversation-based class would work just as well.
I feel that the fact that I can attend the class with my avatar makes it easier for me to participate as a student.

You can also use it for other purposes besides school classes.
And we'd love to hear your feedback about actually teaching or taking classes!

We'll be live-streaming more classes in the future, so be sure to check out our official Twitter feed!
