田中正造伝記26(日本語と英語)

期せずして失った名主時代の資産を
超えるどころか、
遊んで暮らせる程の財産を手にした
正造でした。
普通の人間ならそっちを選ぶのが
当然といえました。
しかし、長い間社会の理不尽さでなめた辛酸の日々、そして名主や役人時代、幾度となく見てきた農民たちの苦しみ、これらの経験が正造を安寧に暮らす事をゆるしませんでした。
そして正造は決心しました。
世の中を良くするために政治の道へ
進む事を。
その決意表明を父富蔵にしたためました。
「私は今後自分が儲けるために事業を
興す事はいたしませぬ。
民衆のため毎年120円ずつ向こう35年の政治活動に使う事をここに誓います。」
正造、37歳の時でした。

Unexpectedly, Shozo acquired enough wealth to live on, not only more than he had lost when he was a village headman,but also enough to be able to live a life of leisure. 
It was only natural that a normal person would choose that option. 
However, the hardships he had endured due to the unreasonableness of society over a long period of time, and the suffering of the peasants he had witnessed many times during his years as village headman and government official, did not allow Shozo to live a life of peace. 
Shozo then made up his mind. 
To go into politics to make the world a better place. 
Shozo wrote a letter to his father Tomizo expressing his determination. 
「I will not start a business to make money for myself in the future. 
I hereby pledge to spend 120 yen each year for the people in political activities for the next 35 years. 」

Shozo was 37 years old.
