第7章
谷中村～田中正造最後の闘い

渡良瀬川游水池。
日本最大の人工湿地帯で、現在はラムサール条約で自然保護が義務告げられている名所であります。
しかし、出来た当初は「赤い沼」と呼ばれ、何千もの人々の血や涙の上により造られたものでした。

1903年。
刑期を終えた田中正造はカツ夫人の所に戻りました。
「天皇直訴プロジェクト」の面々は
既に解散し、それぞれの活動拠点に戻っていました。
松本英子は結婚を機に渡米し、二度と日本に戻る事はありませんでした。
石川半山は、翌年勃発する日露戦争の従軍記者のメンバーに加わる事が決まっていました。
幸徳秋水は、勤めていた新聞社を辞め、「平民社」を同志と供に興し、社会主義運動へと進んで行きました。
(後に大逆事件の首謀者として処刑される事になります)。
そして木下尚江。
一時期は社会主義運動に加わっていましたが、谷中村滅亡前後から田中正造に付き従い、正造の秘書的な存在になっていました。
ただ、正造と木下は度々意見がぶつかる事が多く、その度に正造か木下が離れてしまう事も多々ありました。
逆に言えば、お互い本音をぶつけ会える関係だったと言う事でした。
これらを踏まえて、この章を書き進めていきます。

Chapter 7
Yanaka Village - Shozo Tanaka's final struggle

Watarase River Yusui Pond. 
It is the largest man-made wetland in Japan and is now a famous place mandated by the Ramsar Convention for the protection of nature.
However, it was first created, it was called the "Red Swamp" and was built on the blood and tears of thousands of people.

1903.
After serving his sentence, Shozo Tanaka returned to Mrs. Katsu(Shozo's wife).

The members of the "Direct Appeal to the Emperor Project" had already disbanded and returned to their respective bases of operations.

Eiko Matsumoto moved to the U.S. upon her marriage and never returned to Japan.

Ishikawa Hanzan was scheduled to join the military press in the Russo-Japanese War that was to break out the following year.
Kotoku Shusui resigned from the newspaper company where he worked and founded the "Heiminsha" with his comrades to advance the socialist movement.
(He was later executed as the ringleader of the Great Rebellion.)
Then there was Naoe Kinoshita.
For a time, he also joined the socialist movement, but from around the time of the destruction of Yanaka Village, he followed Shozo Tanaka and became Shozo's secretary.

However, Shozo and Kinoshita often disagreed with each other, and each time this happened, either Shozo or Kinoshita would often leave.
In other words, they had a relationship in which they were able to express their true feelings to each other.
