海外で成功する方法を考えてみた

海外で仕事を成功させる方法を考えてみました(英語圏)。まず、絶対に必要なのは英語です。間違いないと思います。英語を話せない、書けないと、話にならないと思います。「毎日」英語を読む、書く、聴く、話す、訓練をしないといけないと思います。

次に、専門性だと思います。何の専門性もなく、英語だけ話せるだけならば、仕事はないし、そもそもビザが降りないと思います(学歴、職歴などの審査があるはずです)。JACリクルートメントの海外就職セミナーなど聞いていると、意外と「営業」の仕事が多いですね。日本企業の海外現地法人向けの営業であれば、日本語も話せる日本人の需要は多いようです。あとは、工場の現場仕事や、IT系(システムエンジニア)ですかね。

論理的思考力と、思考の結果を「明瞭に」話すことも大切です。海外には、「空気を読む」文化はあまりないため、曖昧な発言をしたり、何も話さないでいると「無能」と思われてしまいます。

そして、意外と必要なのが「ユーモアのセンス」です。PwCのコンサルタントと一緒にヨーロッパ諸国に出張したことがありますが、彼らはジョークが好きです。そこで、意味がわからないと「なんだ、こいつはジョークもわからない、つまんない奴だ」と思われてしまいます。自分がジョークを言うのも良いと思います。ジョークを言うためには、アメリカ人の笑いのツボを知っている必要があります。なので、アメリカのコメディなどをみるとよいと思います。

最後に、教養です。ジョークだけでなく、歴史などの教養的な会話になることもあります。この時に、世界史や地理、政治経済について語れないと、「なんだ、こいつは、教養もない奴か」と思われてしまします。なので、結局は東大文系などの教養のある人のほうが、強いのでしょうね。もしくは海外大学卒業の人です。
