#7 The Sun also Shines [PART1. Indonesia] ep.I "Leaving"

August, in 2016, above the Pacific Ocean

Two-hour longer birthday gave a glass of bourbon to one and exotic scent to the other.

<The Sun also Shines> series is English version of stories I experienced in foreign coutries while I was in University. The Part 1 is taken place in Indonesia. This series is posted in several languages as usual.

The second summer in Uni. As a part of class called "Japanese Language Teaching Method", I'm flying to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia. Heading to Bandung, where they call themselves "Paris of Jawa", we are six students and a professor of the linguistics to join ten-day "internship" which, to be honeset, is almost sightseeing travel.

Two of us got their 20th birthday extended for two hours on board. One of us, who is one of the two, are seaten far away from the rest and pushed to the wall. He said, his naighbor gave him stingy scent. The other birthday gave her a glass of smokey bourbon.

It can't be said too much to say these ten days divide my life into two. That is to say, pre-nesia and pro-nesia. I made my mind to do an exchange in Spain in the end of this trip. Even though I hadn't considered about it at all before the departure.

First night in Indonesia. Staying at hotel near the airport.

A ban came to the airport to pick us up. The professor was upset because the driver was late and made no call to him. He saw the map sent in advance, but nobody was at a meeting-point. Ten minutes later, the driver called him. The driver was at the other end.

The ban suprised me that I had imagined old and rusty one. It smelled new. He told us it's just one week old. He speaks a little bit of Japanese, and was in charge of taking us to the University from the hotel in Jakarta. It takes about ten minutes from the airport to the hotel by car.

They told us that it takes five hours from Jakarta to Bandung where the Uni is without traffic. With traffic, nobody knows. They say traffic jam in Indonesia is quite something. Japanese traffic is just a joke.

The driver hopped in the ban, and said
"We're leeaaaviing."
