ゴルフラウンドでリアルに使う英語表現

早速ですが本記事では、私がリアルにラウンドで使用するゴルフ英語のフレーズをいくつか紹介したいと思います。

※英語での表現方法は様々ですので、以下で紹介するものだけが正解ではありません。

ティーイングエリアで

• （このホールは）全長400ヤードや。
  it's 400 yards to the hole.
  

• 右のバンカー越えは240。（私が打つ場合）
  I've got 240 to the right bunker to get over.
  

• 左のバンカー越えは230ヤードくらいだと思うよ。
  I am assuming that the left banker is maybe 230 yards to fly it.
  

• ドライバーのキャリーはどのくらい？
  How far does your driver carry?
  

• フェアウェイ右真ん中を狙いたい。（私が打つ場合）
  I'm trying to hit the ball towards the middle of the right fairway.
  

• 吹き流しの左にボールキープするね。（私が打つ場合）
  I'm trying to keep the ball left of the blue/yellow flag.
  

• 最近フェードを持ち球にプレーしてる。
  I've been trying to play a fade as my stock shot.
  

• 思ってたより15ヤード左に打ち出した。（私が打った場合）
  It started with 15 yards more left than I wanted.
  

• 左にハザードがあるとき左を怖がって右にすっぽ抜けた球を打つ悩みがある。
  When there is trouble up the left, I have an issue with a big block out to the right, because I'm afraid of hooking the ball.
  

「距離」は先に数字言ってから〇〇まで（to 〜）と言うだけです。
I've got 〇〇yards to carry that front bunker.
（手前バンカーのキャリー越えまで〜ヤードある）
It's 〇〇yards to the pin.
（ピンまで〜ヤードある）

セカンドで

• ピンはグリーンの左端にある。
  The pin is tucked on the left side of the green. 
  

• バンカー越えは130ヤードあるかな。
  I probably got about 130 yards to clear the bunker.
  

• ピンラインは奥150くらいでこぼれる。
  On the same line of the pin, it's about 150 to go over.
  

• グリーン左サイドに小さいマウンドがある。
  The green has a little ridge on the left side.
  （A ridge = マウンド、尾根）
  

• ピン手前にマウンドがある。
  There is a ridge short of the pin.
  

• 外すならどこがいいかな？
  Where is a good miss with this hole location?
  

• つま先下がりだからドローよりフェードの方が少し打ちやすい。
  The ball is below the feet, so it's a little bit easier to fade off of the lie than it is a draw.
  

• 自分なら左バンカーの右端に打ち出したな〜。（誰かのショットを見て）
  I would have started at the right edge of the left bunker.
  

• 両サイドに1番余裕のあるライン取りをすれば良かった。
  I should have taken a line that gives me the maximum point of room on both sides.
  

グリーンで

• 出だしは少し左に曲がって、そこから右に行く。
  The initial part of the putt is gonna go touch left; then it's gonna push off right.
  

• 打ち出しは最もボールスピードがあるから、失速したときほど傾斜通りに曲がるとは限らない。（出だしは球に勢いがあるから曲がらないってこと）
  The first part of the putt will be the fastest part of ball speed, so the break in the initial part doesn't necessarily affect as much as it slows down. 
  

• どのくらい強く打つか次第で、そんなに右に曲がらないかも。
  Depending on how hard I hit it, the right break might not be so effective.

今回は、リアルに外国人とのラウンドで自分が使うゴルフ英語を紹介してみました。ゴルフが上手い人と回ると、今のショットはどんな球でどこ狙ったの？とか、お互いのハザードまでの距離の確認が多くなりますよね。

ゴルフ英会話は、中学レベルの英語ができれば十分成立してしまいます。そして、ゴルフ英会話の手っ取り早い上達法は、ネイティブが実際に使う英語表現を聞いて、フレーズで覚えてしまう。そしてその覚えたフレーズをベースに、単語を入れ替えたりアレンジしていけばいいだけなのです。（私はこの方法でゴルフを通して英語を学びました）

あなたがゴルフ好きで英語を学びたいのであれば、英語のゴルフ動画を見るのが1番のおすすめです。ゴルフは場面が限られているので、シチュエーションパターンが少なくて楽です。映画を見て幅広く英語学ぶより、断然勉強しやすいと私は思います。
