Melodies of Discovery: Unveiling the Musical Journey of Ryuichi and Professor KOIZUMI Fumio

I recently came across a biography of a Japanese music scholar that caught my attention. His work can be described as ethnomusicology, as he dedicated himself to conducting extensive fieldwork on music, instruments, performances, and songs from various cultures around the world. In his memoir titled "Music Sets Us Free," Ryuichi expresses that Professor KOIZUMI Fumio's lecture was one of the most captivating experiences he had during his time at Tokyo University of the Arts. Although Professor Koizumi passed away in 1983, his profound influence on Ryuichi's fascination with Okinawan music persisted, leading him to produce albums like "Neo Geo" (1987) and "Beauty" (1989) through his extensive research on ethnic music.
