Suchmos is all of my youth

About a Rock Band "Suchmos" Which I Devoted All Of My Youth

   In this moment, time of youth is going to the end. In my daily life, I feel that I'm less and less attracted strongly to something.
 
   During thinking of those, I came to think that I have to write about my memories of youth, before the end is coming. It's about "Suchmos". Anyone who will be youth cannot devote themselves to Suchmos. Because the master of the band, HSU died  on October 15, 2021. He was just 32 years old. It's too sad. No matter how much I write something, I can't explain the sadness. But, we can remember and memorize him through listening to their music and watching the videos. 

Suchmos is all of my youth.

   Suchmos is formed by 6 people from Kanagawa in 2013.YONCE (Vocals), TAIKING (Guitar), HSU(Bass),OK (Drums), KCEE (DJ), TAIHEI (Keyboards) . OK and KCEE are brothers, and all of them gathered to brothers' house. They listened to a lot of Records(Jazz, Rock, R&B and hip-hop).

   The reason why I like them is they give a lot of things for me while I could absorb anything sensitively and emotionaly. Their music always moved my heart. Their style is also moving. For example, adidas track Jacket, plane white T-shirt and Levi's Light-colored denim. They were very fashionable for me, so I went to used clothing shops every week.

   Once, my mail was read by them in their radio program.
 "In Tokyo, where do you buy clothing at?"
 " At a certain recycle shop😂"

   From now, I'm looking back on my memories.

   Not in chronological order, Suchmos THE LIVE on September 8, 2019 @Yokohama Stadium lets me write first. Because this is my best day ever. Having a best day makes me live with confidence.

   Suchmos had dreamed holding live @Yokohama Stadium (called Hamasta)since they formed.

   When the live was announced in November 2018, my heartbeat became faster. I realized they would make it! Their slogan was

What's wrong with the ever-changing

    On the day of the concert, a typhoon was approaching the Kanto region. Whether to hold or postpone, I waited for the announcement until the morning of the day. However, Suchmos had the power and momentum to blow away typhoons. At  their peak of some artists, they wear an aura. I was intoxicated Suchmos' aura.

   Yokohama Stadium Arena Seats in the middle and slightly behind was my seat.
I was wearing T-shirt limited for the event and Levi's denim. Levi's was always wore by Suchmos member. In the sky, the typhoon was coming, there are some clouds. In Japan nowadays, September is in the middle of summer. The sunlight shines on me. While I was waiting for bigining, the weather is getting worse and worse, even it was rainning.

   The story goes back a little, two month ago, I watched Suchmos @Niigata. Although the live was quite awesome, they were at some of their peak. The band and music riped completely, like no more. I felt saturated. Probably it caused by big sales of "STAY TUNE" in Japan,  "VOLT-AGE" used for theme song of Soccer world cup, and selected for the "Kohaku" which is Japanese most famous song program. They archive those things in 2years. After artists have done a lot of promotion, their activities often turn into introverted activities. However I think it reduce the attractiveness of Suchmos.

   That's why I was a little worried about their performance at Yokohama Stadium. 
I wondered what kind of clothes, what kind of stance and what kind of vibes they would perform in the live.

   The music playing at the venue became smaller, and then a long and long SE wrapped around the stadium. Members came out one by one. My worry was disappeared.

   YONCE was wearing his old trademark, adidas track jacket and shaved his hair.
It was like the statement that "YONCE, and Suchmos would perform as they were born." YONCE said.

Yokukitane!(Welcome!)

   At the moment, I started to cry. Then for about 3 hours I kept crying and dancing with their music. It was the time I could be with them. More than enough for my life, I thought.
 "MINT" was sung by all audiences, "Hit Me, Thunder" sung in the rainning. In "GAGA" interlude, they exploded their personalities. 

   I don't think the time beyond that live will really come in the future.

   About half a year later after the live, a pandemic occurred. Hamasta Live became their last live. Even though Suchmos had touring plan to perform with a fairly famous Japanese band. And...

   From here, I want to write some songs of Suchmos and episodes related to them.

Life Easy- "Yuyujiteki ni ikou." ("Be relaxing and obey yourself, Life Easy" )YONCE always said. Then, TAIHEI played long piano solo, and we were ecstatic about the music. The concert hall is surrounded by the quietest of the day. We felt TAIHEI's finger moving, and tremor of the air. YONCE sometimes cried like wolf. It made me embarrased, but it reminded me that I could dance and cry by how I want to do. His dancing and crying have a kind of animal-ness that everyone has hidden under their intellects. He reminds me that I can do like him.

Miree- This is the song that made me meet Suchmos. When I was 14 years old 2015, I went to music rock festival "RADIO CRAZY". I had a lot of time because I know less bands. My friend recommended me that "If you are free, you should watch Suchmos." Somehow I went there. Arrived at stage, there were a lot of music freak adults who didn't get close to the stage, and YONCE said "This is last number. Thank you." Then, they start to play "Miree". My heartbeat was faster. I heard the sound of thunder near my ears. It was awesome.  I had never listened such a song. 2015, My Youth time did started.

808- Before making this song, each 6 memberp traveled to where they wanted to go, and took a rest in each way of looking at their spirits. This experiences are expressed into 808's music video. I like this story it's like 2years in ONE PIECE. 6 members with strong individuality bring different inspirations and sublimate into music. "VOLT-AGE" was used for the Russian World Cup theme song in Japan, but the voices of soccer fans was terrible. "808" is a song that states "we will not change" even after that experience, I think.

MINT- One of my favorite songs. "MINT" is melancholy and warmful. MINT reminds me of the brilliant summer memories of the past and stays with me for cold winter days. This is an anthem of my youth.

And finally,
YONCE- Frontman. He is one of my favorite artists. He blew away what I thought uncool and showed me something cool in front of me. YONCE's clumsiness seems to be affecting the fact that Suchmos is slightly underestimated.  I like that clumsiness.  I like the perfect frontman like Liam from Oasis, but I love the humane YONCE.

   I sincerely think that I was happy to see Suchmos' activities and breakthroughs in real time. I saw a lot of words "I wanted to know earlier" in the comment section of YouTube. Now we can't see them again. 
However, their existence will continue to remain as CDs, records, and desital sound sources.  Only a few bands can survive in the hearts of people and in the history of music.  And above all, I'm a witness. I have to convey their goodness.
