図書館をはじめて利用しました。

　まだまだ暑い日が続きますが、みなさんはいかがお過ごしでしょうか。こちらはハンディ扇風機が手放せなくなっています。（今値段が下がっているので、超お買い得です。）

　さて、大学で働きだしてから１年半過ぎようとしていますが、これまで大学図書館に２回しか行ったことがありませんでした。その２回も１回は新入生の図書館ガイダンスの誘導として入ったとき、もう１回は大学パンフレットに掲載する写真を撮影するために入ったときです。（なぜか大学教員の写真は本棚を背景にしているのが多いですよね。）なので、本来の図書館の目的である図書を借りるということを目当てに行ったことが一度もありませんでした。

　これまでは少ない研究費から本を購入していたのですが、流石に情報量が少なすぎてとても研究できないと思い、事務局の職員や学生から教えてもらって図書館の職員さんを紹介してもらいました。

　アポを取って図書館にいったところその職員さんは資料を準備して待っててくれていました。一通り説明を聞いた後、本を注文していいか確認したところぜひ注文してくださいとのことでしたので、早速調べることにしました。最初はほしい本を見つけては、図書館にあるか確認作業をしていたのですが、ある学生から「それも司書が調べてくれるよ。」と言われたので、途中でやめてとにかくほしい本を片っ端から調べてリストアップして、また図書館にもっていきました。すると「調べておきますよ。」とあっさりOK。トータルで１３０冊以上あったのですが、これ全部買ってくれるのかと思うと思わず小躍りしてしまいました。さらにはDVDの注文もOKということなので、映画も発注できるとのことでした。

　こんな権利があるのあればもっと早めに使っておけばよかったと思います。しかし、本を読む余裕が出てきたのも最近の話だったのでこれはこれで良しとしておきます。

　好きな本を好きなだけ読めるようになったということは大学教員になって本当に幸せだと思います。みなさんもぜひこの幸福感を体験してほしいと思う今日この頃でした。

　　I used the library for the first time.

  It's still hot, but how is everyone doing? I can't let go of this handy fan. (It's on sale now.)

 Well, it's been almost a year and a half since I started working in college, but I've only been to the college library twice. The second time was when I entered to guide new students to the library, and the second time was when I entered to take pictures to be published in the college brochure. Because it was a (For some reason, many pictures of university teachers are taken with bookshelves as the background.) I had never been there to borrow books, which was the original purpose of the library.

 Up until now, I had been purchasing books from a small amount of research funds, but as it turned out, the amount of information was so small that I couldn't do any research at all, so I got information from the staff of the secretariat and students and introduced them to the staff of the library.

 When I made an appointment and went to the library, the staff prepared the materials and waited for me. After listening to the explanation, I checked if it is OK to order the book, and they told me to order it, so I decided to check it right away. At first, I found the books I wanted and checked if they were in the library, but one student told me, "The librarian will look into that too." So I stopped in the middle, and I went through all the books I wanted, made a list, and took them back to the library. Then, I said "I'll look into it." and it was OK. There were more than 130 books in total, but I didn't know if they would buy all of them, so I jumped a little. In addition, you can order DVDs, so you can also order movies. 

 If I had this right, I should have used it earlier. However, since it was only recently that I was able to afford to read books, I think this is enough.

  I feel very happy to be a university teacher because I can read as many books as I want. I hope you will experience this happiness today.

  (Recently, I was hooked on Final Fantasy 10 years ago, which I bought for 260 yen, and I was an associate professor who didn't read any books at all.)
