MRSAの経鼻的スクリーニングは、MRSA肺炎、腹腔内感染、菌血症の疑いを除外するための高い陰性的中率を有することが示されている。鼻腔スワブのPCRアッセイを行ってMRSAの検出がないことをコロニーがないことによりバンコマイシンを中止するというbefore-afterスタディ。介入直前〜直後の期間において、バンコマイシン鼻腔スワブの使用が有意に増加し（28/150 vs 48/100）、介入後2年間でバンコマイシン使用日数/1,000患者日が1ヵ月あたり2.34％と減少した。
