A story of an Old Piano Brand “KAISER”

Hello!! This is YOMO!!

I have an old upright piano called KAISER brand in my house.

I think some readers recognize that KAISER is a Yamaha Brand.

That’s no doubt. But, When I looked into KAISER brand again, I found it interesting.

I got a glimpse of the transition of the Piano Brand and the transition of the Piano Industry in Japan.

The KAISER brand was originally a Kawai musical instrument brand.

It’s a little confusing, this Kawai musical instrument company is different from Kawai Musical Instruments that you often see now.

It is a company started by the husband of the daughter of the founder of Kawai Musical Instruments.

I don’t know the details, but it seems that it was a piano sales company.

The piano was manufactured by TENRYU Musical Instruments.

TENRYU Musical Instruments was located in Hamamatsu City. During the Greater East Asia War (Second World War), it manufactured aircraft parts and pianos under the name TENRYU WEAPON.

After the War, it gathered people from YAMAHA and started again.

Under the guidance and assistance of YAMAHA, it manufactured its own brand and YAMAHA brand pianos and organs.

TENRYU Musical Instruments was absorbed and merged by YAMAHA in 1954(Showa29).

Kawai musical instrument company also seems to have been absorbed and merged by YAMAHA at the same time.

For this reason, YAMAHA sold KAISER manufactured by TENRYU Musical Instruments.

KAISER brand pianos have since been discontinued and are no longer for sale.

Not long ago, I had a tuner come to my house and tune the piano for the first time in a while.

The rich sound unique to an acoustic piano has returned.

For me, who is used playing electric pianos and synthesizers, it’s difficult to control the keyboard touch, overcoming little by little with repeated practice, I want to enjoy the sound of the OLD PIANO.

Thank you for reading!!
