どの国も戦争に勝つことはできない。

But in a day when sputniks and explorers are dashing through outer space and guided ballistic missiles are carving highways of death through the stratosphere, no nation can win a war. It is no longer the choice between violence and nonviolence. It is either nonviolence or nonexistence, and the alternative to disarmament.

しかし、スプートニクや探検家が宇宙空間を颯爽と駆け抜け、誘導弾道ミサイルが成層圏に死の高速道路を刻む今日、どの国も戦争に勝つことはできない。もはや暴力か非暴力かの選択ではない。非暴力か非存在か、そして軍縮という選択肢である。

暗殺されたキング牧師がDecember 18, 1963, speech at Western Michigan Universityで行った演説。ここでいう戦争はベトナム戦争を指しているのだろうが、2023年の今にもあてはまる。
私には夢があるの演説が有名だが、彼の演説には哲学的な深みがある。
