What is Psycological Safety
Kudos to Betse Green!!
We had such wonderful time discussing and learning about Psycological Safety / Safe space with using improvisation. We watched a 8-min-video clip of the international performers from AIN Virtual Conference 2021. The reason why I as a host to picked the video was because from my own experience.
I had an offer to perform as an interenational performer from my favorite AIN friends Rita from Peru and Carla from Spain about two weeks before the actual performance day. I didn't wanna disappoint them, so I said OK, but I was kind of.... VERY scared to perform in front of bunch of people online in English at 5 am Japan Time of Saturday morning. I regreted I said Yes a bit.. at the same time I was so excited to perform with performers around the world. so much mixed feelings.
Long story short, I had such wonderful warm warm warm feeling and excitement after performance directed by Betse Green!! She created that virtual space so safe and warm for each of us to perform spontaneously.
People often carry unconcious fears and resistance. And it is hard to get rid of those unless you realize it and let it go. Even though you realize it, it is still hard to let it go because you don't want to make mistakes or you want to look perfect.
I would also like to add the fact that I was able to create such wonderful safe space with the biiiiiig supports of my wonderful team members, co-host Per Rasmussen and backstage support Ellen Schnur and Jessica Beckendorf.
Without them, I should have been terrified to share my honest feeling to show the video clip.
Last night we all had insightful and thoughtful discussions and learned a lot about creating safe space/Psycological Safety with Betse and others from around the world.
The next AIN x Watch Party will be on May 26 Thursday at 11pm JST. For more info, please check out this link!
