押韻詩論のための覚え書き①：英語のRhythmed verseを知る

　英語の押韻定型詩（Rhythmed verse）は、連（Stanza）、対句（Caplet）、行（Line）、フット（Foot）といった集合から成ります。

　フットは「音節（Syllable）」を最小の韻律単位にし、１つのフットにはほとんどの場合に「強勢（Stress）」と「押韻（Rhyme）」が含まれます。フットに強勢がない場合は押韻も意味を成しません。

　英語の押韻定型詩で最も一般的なタイプは、「ソネット（Sonnet）」と「普通律（C. M.）」だと言えるでしょう。

　ソネットは各行が10音節から成り、4つの連を持つ14行の詩型です。連の構成はabab/cdcd/efef/ggやabba/cddc/eff/eggなど、色々なスタイルがありますが、基本的には「雄節（Iamb）」に脚韻を持ちます。

　普通律は、8音節の行と6音節の行が交互に成る詩型です。
