To Live with Regrets

In recent years we often hear athletes who won a race or game say that they did their best because they didn’t want to regret it. In Japan, many young people always say that when they make up their minds about something.

But I don’t feel empathy for them. When I hear that, I feel like saying to them, “You’d better regret what you did!”

I think you can improve yourself only if you regret what you did.

Young people may detest regret, but it’s natural to regret if you failed.

Oops, I should have done it from the beginning!
If I had been more persistent, it might have been all right.
I might not have brought disaster to myself if I hadn't chosen that option.

All those experiences must turn out to be motivation for your next behavior. That’s what I feel.

If I am wrong, it’s OK. I will regret it. I do what I think is right, even if I may regret it afterward. That is always how I decide on something.

But unfortunately, my decision is often wrong, so my life is full of regrets. Well, that’s just life. I don’t care in all conscience.

Don't you all work in the direction of "I don't want to regret" becoming a burden to you? In my case, it does.

When I try not to regret anything afterward, I become more anxious, my body becomes stiff, and I almost lose my judgment and ability to act.

I think it is the thought that it is okay to regret that frees us, and it is because we regret that we make progress.

Of course, it is not hard to understand the logic of "I don't want to regret, so I will do my best". However, when I hear that, I want to ask, "But do you think you can go through your whole life without regrets?"

I don’t think you can. And you don’t need to avoid regret. It is regret that helps you move on to the next phase.

I feel that only by standing firm on the mountain of accumulated regrets you can reach success and happiness in the distance.
