Recently, the fact that the number of young people aspiring to become legal professionals has been decreasing year by year has become a major issue for our legal community. Below, I will reflect on the current situation based on specific data and share my thoughts.

若者の法律家志望者の減少

文部科学省の「大学進学者数統計」や、法務省の「司法試験合格者数データ」によれば、法律を専攻する学生の数は過去10年で顕著に減少しています。具体的には、2000年代初頭には毎年約1万人の学生が法律を専攻していたのに対し、2023年にはその数が半減しており、5000人程度となっています。また、司法試験の受験者数も2010年には約3万人であったのに対し、2023年には約1万5000人まで減少しています。
