The tyranny of merit introduced the rhetoric "the right side /wrong side of history". I thought it was coined around the Cold War, but according to the book, it is coined after it. George W. Bush, republican scarcely used the phrase and it was mainly used by Democrats. Surprisingly, Obama used the triumphalist rhetoric 32 times.

It is true that this rhetoric sounds arrogant, but I think there is little relevance between meritocratic view of modern society and this affirmation of democracy as a inevitable history change. Two thoughts are similar in that they believe the "right" side will finally win. But the second view is just a way to express their support for democracy and little implication for meritocracy. I mean believing that justice will finally prevail is a kind of hope and that is a bit different from how we see the world.
