今日は、この英語日記ポッドキャストやっていたら英語上手になったかもしれない。と思った話をします。
So in today's episode, I will talk about that I realised I have improved my English skills when I decided to relisten to an old podcast episode.
先日、3ヶ月前のこのポッドキャストのエピソードを聞く機会があったんですね。
Recently, I had an opportunity to listen to my previous podcast episode.
いやぁびっくりしました。
聞くに耐えないですね！！
はずかし〜ってなりました。
（配信しておいて何を言っているんだ）
I was so surprised as I felt embarrassed by the English level in the previous episode. I could not stand listening to it as it was so embarrassing.
まずは、以前から私のポッドキャストをフォローしてくださったり、聞いてくださる皆様に御礼を申し上げます。
なんていい人たちなんですか！！！みなさんは！！感動！！
First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone who has followed me for a while, although my English level hasn’t been good enough. Also, for English-speaking listeners, I know the way of being humble is strange to you. But you know I am Japanese and am using English as a Japanese. So let me excuse the way of being "Japanese"
Anyway, I am really glad and impressed by you who have followed me for a long time even though my English level is not enough to broadcast.
I really appriciate all of you.
さて、ここから気がついたことはですね、
やっぱり英語って、ながーくほそーくやると、それなりに結果がついてくるもんなんだなぁと。
Okay, so back to the topic, from now, I will talk about my insight from the experience.
I realised (I know it is quite easy to imagine) that language learning is a long-term journey. But the more you spend your time improving your second language, the more you can see the achievements, even little by little.
そりゃ今でも四苦八苦したり、 前置詞これなんだっけなぁとか悩むことも多いです。
Of course, I am still struggling to use English. I sometimes need to consider which vocabulary I should use…. or consider whether my choice of preposition is appropriate. Yeah, I am still learning every single day.
でも、たった3ヶ月前の音源でも、
あぁコツコツ続けてたら少しは伸びたなって思えるくらいにはなりました。
However, the previous episode reminds me that my English level has improved although it was just three months ago.
短期ではなく長期の目線で、コツコツ ちりつもで頑張っていきたいと思います。
I will continue my English learning journey as a long-term investment in myself. I can see that small things add up and make a big difference.
1ヶ月後ではなく1年後。
1年後ではなく5年後10年後。
ながーくほそーく頑張ります。というふわっとした決意表明なのでした。
I will focus on my achievements in a year rather than in a month, not only a year but also 5 years or 10 years.
I will keep going as long as I can even though it would be in small steps. I am sure the small steps make a big difference.

この言葉、海外ドラマなどを見るとよく聞きますよね。
Previous episode of Ted Rasso とか
（Ted Rassoは先日まで私と旦那が見ていた海外ドラマ。面白いのでおすすめです）
今日の英語日記の初めの部分で
I realised I have improved my English skills when I decided to relisten to an old podcast episode.
とお話ししたんですが、実ははじめ、Previous episodeってしていたんですよね。
そうしたら旦那に、
「いつのエピソードの話してるの？前回？昔？」って言われました。
どうやら、Previousという言葉は、このエピソードより以前であればいつでもいいわけです。
つまり、177回分全部Previous episodeと言えるらしく、
時系列が分かりづらいということでした。
今回の場合は3ヶ月前のエピソードの話なので、
Oldと時系列がわかる言葉を使った方がわかりやすいそうです。
そこで、エピソード冒頭は時系列をクリアにするために
'Old podcast episode' と話して、
大体いつの時系列を話しているかはっきりさせた後は
’Previous episode’としました。
一度、時系列をクリアにすれば、その後は文脈から大体いつの話をしているか掴めるんですって。（へぇ〜）
会話だと、「え、いつの話？」って聞き返されて「あぁ3ヶ月前の話」とかってクリアにできますが、
ポッドキャストのように一方通行の一人語りの場合はクリアにしておく必要がありますよね。確かにと思ったのでした。
難しいですねぇ。こういう言葉の使い分けって。まだまだ勉強が必要です。
