On 21 August 1689...

On 21 August 1689 (a lunar calendar date), Matsuo Basho reached his final destination Ogaki as he later described in his travelogue “Okuno Hosomichi” (The Narrow Road to Oku). The poet began his journey around 150 days earlier starting at his humble abode (Basho-An) in Fukagawa, Tokyo (then known as Edo) where the "Basho Memorial Hall" now stands.
As a tribute to this important figure in the #Heiku World, the museum is holding the 4th Basho-An International English Haiku Competition".
You may be wondering who writes Haiku in English. Well, you got it wrong there. Over 1573 poems were submitted from 44 countries last year alone!
Why don’t you try your #writing skill using poetic imagination? Anyone can submit his/her poem to the organizer’s website. The closing date is 10 November 2021.

By the way, there is a paperback version of “The Narrow Road to Oku“, a book translated by Donald Keene whose #translation is rock-solid, I suppose.
