試験勉強の寄り道 「総理通訳の外国語勉強法」を読んでみた

新書「総理通訳の外国語勉強法」

なんだか凄そう、と思ってAudibleで読んで（聞いて）みました。
アラビア語学習の経験から得たノウハウを惜しみなく共有してくださっています。

総理通訳の外国語勉強法（現代新書）

自分の理解では大人がゼロから外国語学習を始める場合のノウハウ本でした。英語に適用するなら、やり直しをしたい方向けです。

既にある程度話せる言語に対してはしっくりこない勉強法もあるかもしれません。（今更それやる？という意味で）

外国語の勉強は目的から逆算した方法であるべき、という発想は合理的だと感じました。まさに通訳が仕事かつ目的である筆者の体験から出てきた言葉なんだろうなと。

本書で説明されているのは、通訳に限らず、「話せる」を目標にする場合の方法論です。本当に最速で身につくのか、いつか英語以外の言語学習で試してみたいです。

そして改めて思ったのが、通訳はやはり独特のスキルだなということです。

通訳の経験がない自分には、日本語と外国語を正確に対応させてインプット・アウトプットを行うというのが壁だったりします。
外国語だけでやり取りするのとは頭の使い方が違うように思うのです。

通訳案内士の試験対策としては、日本語→英語、英語→日本語のトレーニングの必要性を改めて感じました。

通訳案内士をどう訳す？

全国通訳案内士の英語表記はNational Government Licensed Guide Interpreter
なわけですが、実際、しっくりくる？という疑問をちょっと持っていたりします。

知った当初、仰々しい名称だなと思ったのです。
政治の場をサポートする資格っぽく聞こえなくもない気がしませんか？
（ちなみに本書の中で語られてますが、そういうのは外務省職員のお仕事だそうです。）

いわゆる「通訳ガイド」のライセンスなわけですが、今回はこの2つの言葉の違いをchat-GPT に聞いてみることにしました。

guide interpetreとtour-guide interpetreです。

A "guide interpreter" typically provides interpretation services for visitors, helping them understand the language and culture of the place they're visiting. On the other hand, a "tour-guide interpreter" specifically combines the roles of a tour guide and an interpreter, providing both guiding and interpretation services during tours or excursions. The main difference lies in the emphasis on guiding in the latter term.

多分にオーバーラップしていますが、差は「訪問者を率いる責任の有無」でしょうか。

実は、通訳案内士の勉強を始めて一番びっくりしたのは「添乗員業務も同時にやるの！？」です。「通訳案内の実務」を勉強する前はそんなことは想定していなかったので、兼務する人が多い（？）という業界の実態を知り何とも言えない気持ちになったものです…

無資格ガイドとして働く予定は今のところないため、どのように働くか・働けるかは資格を取ってからの話ではあるんですが…
自分に向き不向きのスタイルを探すのは、先の楽しみにとっておきます。
